My 6mth ds keeps getting a stinging nettlemark on his cheek. It comes up at no particular time and stays for about 5 mins. Its always a diff size and shape.Iv read that it could be wheels disease and the most common cause could be an allergy to strawberries but this came up after I gave him raspberries.Any advie please?

do you wash your fruit before giving them to him. It could be the pesticides.

red fruit can often cause a histamine reaction. He is not allergic per se. You can treat with piriton, but I would just avoid red fruit for a while.

In the US we were told to avoid all berries until one year, because of the possibility of a reaction.

I havent given my ds any red fruit since 16th sept.Iv taken him to gp and he does not know what it is.He has advised I keep a food diary which I have been. The marks are getting bigger and they multiply. They stay longer than 5 minutes. They stayed for an hour and a half today.
He doesnt seem bothered by them but I am.They are like blisters now.Like he has just been burnt. The skin goes very red. What should I do?
They come up every day throughout the day. They are becoming more frequent. Can I demand that he get tested even though they do not bother my ds and he feeding etc very well.He is very happy.
I really want to know what it is.Does it have to be something that he has every day?
Is it food?
Please help.x

could it be a heat rash? i really don't know but:
a) go and see GP tomorrow and HV just to put your mind at rest
b) in my country strawberries , rasperries etc are not allowed until 1 year old, and you'd start with strawberries by peeling the skin off (yes, it's true, the hairy bits can cause some sort of reaction and i believe this is true of any 'hairy' kind of fruit, even kiwi if peeled you might still miss a few hairs you never know, better to be safe than sorry)
c) reduce his diet to very simple foods: pure apple pure, just milk, etc do not mix foods in purees, no cheese, whatever you can think of that has been processes in one way or another and re-introduce food to him gradually to see what happens.
d) are you using any kind of air freshners in the house, could he have an alregic reaction to some product used in the house or car. are you wearing perfume or maybe he is reacting to a particular fabric you or he might be wearing
have you got a new pet?
have run out of ideas now... i really don't know the answer i'm afraid...

or a new toy he might be sensitive too????

Branster · 27/09/2004 21:31

washing powder, softner...?

Branster · 27/09/2004 21:32

it may be something he gets in contact with rather than a reaction to what he eats. but i don't really know. best to see gp and demand a proper examination
