i thin k she is stressed

its finally reached her face, despite treatments.

i know it sounds awful, but i dont like it when the eczema effects their faces, as itys more visable and leaves them open to comments from nosy gits or well meaning advice (have you tried going dairy free, have you tried this, ooo that looks sore what you done ducky, has she been burnt? etc etc)

so far we have tried over the last 8months

hydrocortisone
emuovate
dakacort (she currently has suspected fungal infection so this is in use now)

eurcerin
aveeno
aquous
doublebase
diprobase

balneum

so what next?

for dd i used hydrocortisone 1% on her for probably 2 weeks til all the redness, yellowness, flakiness, scaliness went so skin smooth. that was twice a day, with diprobase in between.

also, 3 baths a week only, in not very hot water with an oat filled sock in the water to make it go creamy. stopped using soap powder, just use soapnuts now. and now just use oilatum cream on her skin maybe 3 times a day, all over.

that's what worked for us, but they are all different. fwiw, i never did the no dairy thing or anything diet wise. for me the thing was to keep the hydrocortisone going til it all went fully, not stopping and starting all the time.

i swear by dream cream from lush.simple but very effective!my ds ezcema flares up occasionaly but we use his 'magic cream' and it fine again.

pointydog · 30/07/2007 21:53

sorry, no advice. We tried pretty much every cream going on advice of consultant but when things were bad, they just were bad and it was a losing b attle to keep it under any sort of control.

Betnovate? It's pretty strong but the only thing that helped was blasting it with a high dosage, then returning to usual routines. We're having to use it on dd2's neck just now.

I got so hacked off with dermatologists. Best of luck.

MadEyeMisdee · 30/07/2007 22:33

oh forgot, we are currnetly using 50/50 now as well.

she hjasnt seen a dermo yet, but am well practised with eczema, as dd1 has it pretty bad as well.

we will be asking for referral to dermo soon if i cant get it under control.

What about bactroban? If there is a fungal thing going on, it might work better?

I've been told by gp and paed consult that aqueous has been found to aggravate eczma.

i know VVQ, but its the first thing they perscribed, 'ooo eczema have some aquous cream' dd1 has lanolin allergy, so we avoid e45 stuff as well.

i am thinking of trying dermol500 on her next. i have a brand new tub of it that dh sent home from the hospital as its surplus to requirments for him. dd1 used it for over 2years and was brilliant, but then developed an allergy to something in it last summer

has she seen a dermatologist?

How far would you be prepared to travel to see one?

MadEyeMisdee · 30/07/2007 22:54

there is a good on at herford general which dd1 sees, just a case of getting referral sorted. and with everything else going on, i am very embaressed to say its hasnt been top of my list. creams have been applied etc.

MEM we are having problems with DS' eczema as well. We have a hospital referral but not til the end of August (have been on waiting list since June) and really feels like we've been left to deal with this on our own - it's so tough.

We have been through all the usual suspects and at the moment are using HC (1% with antibiotics for weepy patches, 0.5% for other red bits) plus doublebase and oilatum in the bath. Also we only use Surcare to wash, and only 100% cotton clothing.

I have just bought a load of clothes from these people, he can get scratch mitts off as fast as you can put them on, but these have built-in gloves so he can't scratch in sleep, in car etc - hopefully that will help. Otherwise I am just hoping the paed can help when we go to hospital. Have you had any kind of allergy testing?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 30/07/2007 22:58

oh misdee thats to be expected. There is a Dr Almeyda who works around North London. He is farking ace, but, I dont know if he consults anywhere near you.

she has had chicken pox already kerrymum.

OP posts:
MadEyeMisdee · 30/07/2007 23:09

snugglepaws sit looks good, but the poppers on the legs are a no no as she will open them easily and rub her skin.

will have to get some cotton comfort ones sorted for her as well.

will do kerry, i think you mentioned it for dd1 as well. whose skin is sore/red but not itchy or bothering her.

OP posts:
pointydog · 31/07/2007 11:29

kerry, re chicken pox. When dd2 had anu type of illness the eczema cleared up.

Apparently this is because eczema exists in the first place because the body is fighting against itself and when there is a real illness present, the body focuses on attacking the illness and so the eczema goes away. (I know that is very unscientific but there is a scientific explanation!)
