Failure to thrive

I have a 15 month old who wont eat unless its crisps or biscuits, we struggle for hours trying to spoon feed as he won't pick up any meat fruit or veg. He has been deemed failure to thrive as fallen to the bottom of the height chart since weaning which I'm sure is due to allergies upsetting his stomach and fear of food so not getting the nutrition.

Consequently he doesn't sleep, waking sometimes every 20 minutes all night....I'm so beyond exhausted. I now co sleep and breastfeed on demand to get him back to sleep quicker as I can't stay awake.

Does anyone have any advice or similar experience please.

My little one has been diagnosed with failure to thrive. Although he would eat. But just wasn't gaining any weight - we were prescribed fortini - a milk replacement High calorie drink - it seems to have done the trick.

Thanks for replying. Glad you've found something that helps. Is that dairy free? We have neocate spoon which I guess is similar but it doesn't seem to be making much difference.

Dd was a nightmare, she was diagnosed at 2 with autism and dyspraxia with low tone in her jaw. I would request a referral to a specialist at this point - it got so bad for us the only thing she would eat was McDonald's (or home made but fries and nuggets) and was living mostly on fortified milkshakes. It's not that your dc necessary has any of these conditions but food issues often have other causes

Thanks stucknoue, how did your dd get diagnosed? What were her symptoms if you don't mind me asking. I do feel something is wrong and had bloods done but nothing identified.

That is more than DD ate at that age, but she was never underweight, she just didn't want to wean, and I didn't restrict her access to milk - by that point she was on formula. How much will your DS drink? I know from keeping a food diary that DD could drink 1.2 litres/day (yes, I do know that's a lot) - and that's what she actually drank, not what was prepared.

DD (now 6) is still a very fussy eater, but her weight and other development are fine. She was actually overweight at about 3.5 due to drinking so much milk, but that's no longer the case.

I'm not sure how much he drinks as he is breastfed still due to allergies. He feeds all night long! He only feeds once during the day before his nap though. He also isn't underweight, 40th percentile, he just isn't growing in height like he should, so he just be getting calories, but either not the right ones or not absorbing it. Was your dd ok on height and sleep?

Height was fine, she was feeding during the night (about every three hours), but also during the day.

It would have been an awful lot of milk to produce if I'd been breastfeeding.

Yes that would have been crazy!
