Green diarrhoea type poo - could this be allergy/intolerance to something?

Hi,
LO of 6.5 months has had frequent greenish watery poo lately. Maybe 6-8 times a day and a small amount whereas he used to be really regularly 1-2 a day of large amount.
I started BLW about 3-4 weeks ago, just giving him food to hold and play with and he started to eat them probably about 6 months. Just since Monday though he's had this loose poo and I'm not quite sure what it is. The only really new thing I might have given him was broccolli, but I understnad that to be a pretty low allergenic food generally.
any thoughts? maybe he just has a bug and has nothing to do with it, i'm not sure.

Broccoli didn't affect my ds in this way but when he has beetroot, well you know he's had it the next day IYSWIM. I shouldn't think it should be loose though. Is it just veg you're giving him?

Forget allergy. It's over-hyped these days.

Children's poo reflects what they've eaten. If they eat carrots, it's orange. If they eat broccoli it's green. If they eat chocolate it looks like chocolate.

If he looks healthy, then there's nothing to worry about. Honestly!

Oh, and if they eat beetroot, it's most definitely red!

Amberjee · 21/07/2007 21:16

yep, think the green could be from the vegetables, but they are most definitely loose and watery, which is the part that concerns me.

am thinking of going back to pure BF for a few days to see if it clears up and starting again a bit more slowly ...

All babies poo is watery. Obviously you're more intuitive about it than me, and I don't doubt that if it feels wrong to you then you should check it out.

My ds was certainly well over 18 months before he started to do consistently hard stools. For the most part, they were watery. He was on formula feed from 6 weeks.

I don't think bf will make his stools firmer, but by all means go back to it if you think it's the right thing to do.

amidaiwish · 21/07/2007 22:11

is the poo burning his skin/making it red? if so, it might be "teething" poos which can be pretty nasty.

otherwise if they're not bothering him i wouldn't worry too much.

Might be nothing to do with the brocolli - dd3 has had this once or twice and it was just a tummy bug. I got advice from NHS direct.

more likely to be a bug than an allergy. A few types BF will help get healthy bacteria back in his gut and do no harm.

thanks guys, have just gone back to pure BF for a few days, will see what happens.

xx
