Allergy - flying with Emirates

Hi all
I'm flying with Emirates and my partner is allergic to nuts (carries epipens).
They've said they can't guarantee a nut flight (understandable) and that we'll be served nut free meals. Upon googling it looks like they're not particularly great with understand nut allergies and have served incorrect dishes before.
Looks like we'll take our own food. Any suggestions? It's a long flight with a stop over, so it'll have to all be store bought rather than home made.

Also happy to hear anyone's experience of dealing with allergies with Emirates?

My DH has a nut allergy and it is a bit of pain on long haul flights. We have never flown with Emirates, but Virgin are just as bad, they cannot provide a nut free meal either. We normally have a big breakfast prior to the flight, then take him sandwiches in an insulated lunch box for when everyone has the hot meal. We also take fruit, crisps and snacks. He is not usually too hungry, so it's not too bad. Tui were much better, they could actually provide a nut free meal.

I'm hoping they're okay. Although cross contamination is an issue as well.
Like you I think we'll have to take our own food. Shame really when the meal is costed into the price of the flight!

I would get him to take the meal anyway, like you've said you've paid for it. He maybe able to eat some parts of it, eg cheese and crackers, sometimes things come packaged, obviously he will have to check the labels. You may also be able to eat some his, if you don't like yours.

Just be careful with things like the salad, sometimes these actually contain nuts. Easyjet have just banned peanuts on their flights, I hoping other airlines follow soon.

You probably already know but don't forget to leave everything you don't eat on the plane, we always take bananas, but you can't take them in to most countries.

Thank you, yes I'm aware about taking food off the plane etc.
We have a stopover.. I assume this means I'd have to buy food for the second flight during the connection?

You won't miss anything by taking your own good if you're flying econo.

If you're stopping in Dubai there are gazillions of food outlets to stock up on for your next leg.

Sorry hit go too soon. Flew Emirates 2 weeks ago. Legroom is great.

There were prepacked cheese and biscuits on the trays.

You can carry enough food for your whole outbound journey as you're allowed to take food in and out of Dubai for your transfer (just try to avoid bacon/ham/sausage for obvious reasons!). So no need to buy food in DXB if you don't want, in fact I'd say you're better off taking all your food from home as the food prep and wait staff in Dubai aren't known for their understanding of allergies.
Instant noodles, mug shots, instant porridge are all good, lightweight options for something warm that can be made by just adding hot water. Just pack them in a Tupperware bowl that you can also use for making them up. As a previous poster said sandwiches, crackers, fruit, crisps, chocolate, rice cakes, flapjacks are all relatively easy to carry and don't need to be chilled.
