I know it's the season and have taken fexofenafine but wonder what else I can take

I've found pirinase spray really good. I normally suffer badly

Processedpea · 22/04/2019 12:15

Thanks I will have a look

I have no advice but can sympathise.

I can usually keep mine well under control, even when the pollen count is high, with Beconase and an antihistamine but since Thursday morning it's been horrendous and those aren't touching it.

DonPablo · 22/04/2019 13:33

Having the same issue here. A pharmacist has just started an AMA so I've asked on there if I can take anything else. I do have a stash of prednisone that my gp let's me have in for emergencies like job interviews but I really hate taking them!

Whenisitbedtime · 22/04/2019 13:35

Agreed mine also horrendous

I’ve been walking round with tissue stuck up my nose since Friday

Peridot1 · 22/04/2019 13:36

I’ve been suffering all weekend. Normally any otc antihistamine works well but not this time. I bought BecoDefence which used to be Prevalin and am using that plus an antihistamine and Optrex eye spray. Feel really drained with it too.

Might try Pirinase spray. Can’t face going out to get any though!

Beautiful weather and I have been stuck in all weekend as it’s just miserable when I go out.

Simonfromharlow · 22/04/2019 17:46

I've literally sat indoors all weekend

Processedpea · 27/04/2019 07:46

Seems a little better today I suppose the rain has dampened the spores ?

I definitely found I felt better after the rain on Thursday.

I bought the Pirinase spray and it’s definitely better than the BecoDefence so thanks for the recommendation Simonfromharlow.

My eyes are still very itch and sore though.

Simonfromharlow · 27/04/2019 15:59

Yeah i still need to use drops with the perinase. But glad you like it!

I have allergies to grass pollen and dust mites. Every spring would bring discomfort and sometimes downright misery, plus if I used dustpan and brush (rather than a Hoover) to sweep the carpets I would be afflicted with violent sneezing fits for up to 4 hours Shock Fun it wasn’t.

I would take antihistamines (loratadine, cetirizine) each spring for several months, but found after a year or two I seemed to have gained a tolerance or resistance so that they were no longer effective. Alternating each year helped. Mind you, they never got rid of the hay fever symptoms, merely dampened them down.

Then a few years ago I started getting respiratory problems, breathlessness etc, was diagnosed with CPOD and prescribed various inhalers and some nasal spray, Fluticasone. I now have it in the form of nasal drops and have to take them every day. BUT the upside is that ever since then I haven’t had any allergy problems; I hardly notice the onset of the hay fever season and can sweep away with my trusty dustpan and brush to my heart’s content.

I don’t know if a GP would prescribe Fluticasone for hayfever but it might be worth asking. It may also go by the name Flixonase. There’s a nasal spray but the drops are stronger and do the business! I’ve had no side effects from them.
