Sun lotion allergy

Hi my 3 year old gets an allergy from sun lotion.
We have tried most of the sensitive childrens lotion but nothing seems to work.
Once the cream is applied it takes until the same evening or the next morning to come up in a meningitis type rash all over her body.
It doesn't seem to bother her and I havent seen her scratching her skin but it looks awful.
She's had very sensitive skin from birth.
Any suggestions please. Many thanks

try the child's farm suncream. its suitable for children with eczema and so shouldn't cause a reaction x

I had one on holiday that gave me eczema on my hands so I think getting reactions from these things is probably pretty common, sensitive skin or not. Just keep trying various ones and maybe do a patch test with each, one cream on one hand and another on the other maybe? Have a feeling it was the 'Malibu' one that went for me.

I just came on to ask exactly the same question so will follow this with interest. I've never known DD to have a reaction before, but over the weekend we used Nivea Kids and she's now covered in a really red, bumpy rash (worse in areas where I was a bit more liberal with the application!).

Having the same issues here. I found one that worked last year but have just re-bought and used it on DS and he’s come out with an awful red rash on his face and neck. It looks like he’s got sunburn, despite wearing 50spf and being indoors a most of the time, the poor thing.

There are loads of sensitive skin ranges like Evy but they are quite expensive and there is no telling if they will be right for us.

I think he was prescribed Sun-sense before but am going to check with the GP that I’ve remembered the right one before I go out and buy it.

Following with interest!

Following with interest too - I'm horribly sensitive to EVERY suncream, spray, lotion - it has seriously ruined holidays. Will post reaction

Hi all I've just been told it could be the alcohol they use. They still put alcohol in sensitive sun lotion. Am going to try "Green people organic children suncream" as they don't use alcohol.

Green people was the only cream my dd could use for a while. Luckily, she's grown out of that allergy and can now use normal sensitive suncream.

I've ordered some ladival suncream for prickly heat. Will let you know what the out come is when it arrives.

ladival worked for me to stop getting prickly heat, the other sunscreen that works is garnier uv water

Fillypants · 09/06/2019 10:25

Green People children's organic suncream or Badger suncream are the only ones my DD can tolerate.

ATowelAndAPotato · 09/06/2019 10:27

My friend always reacts to the water resistant ones, but not the normal ones. Not sure what they put in to make it water resistant but seems to be that. Could that be a factor here?

We have been there with sun cream issues too peanutkins. My dd is grown up now but triggered like your dd throughout her life. The last issue a few years ago was the worst ever. Her entire body, due to going beach in a bikini, sun cream had been applied everywhere. Like you stated it took until late evening/following day to really take hold. Itching skin and rash that night. Next day swollen ears (weeping) swollen eyes, face and all over body rash. Requiring Piriton through out. We had always had delayed eczema trigger after sun cream with rashing but never quite as bad as this last reaction. Due to this- during a whole revamp on her allergy care, she was offered patch testing at the hospital. Where they apply different chemicals on patches which are left on the skin for a couple days to see if a reaction takes place. I know this wont be suitable for younger age groups but has been valuable now to open our eyes to which/what are the causes of some of her problems. Surprise, surprise she was found to develop a reaction to one of the main sun cream components Benzophenone-4 and various other cosmetic preservative chemicals. Obviously this is very individual but the same chemical was in her shampoos and conditioners at home. They gave us a sun cream option/sugestion, free from what our dd had reacted to. We have bought some but not yet tried it, picture attached.
