Have been thinking about this lately and realised I haven't a clue... thought I would ask you knowledgeable lot.
ds is 2.2, eats a pretty varied diet and appears to have no allergies whatsoever. We weaned him extremely slowly and carefully (from 6.5 months), but because he didn't react to things we gradually became more confident and now he basically eats what we eat. I have asthma and (allegedly) a dust mite allergy, but neither dh nor I have any food allergies we know of. dh's niece was allergic to a range of things as a young child, but has grown out of almost all of it. I have been avoiding peanut butter (am bf ds and also pg) because of the asthma. We are not big nut eaters at all, but have on rare occasions given ds things with nuts (although never peanuts) in - e.g. cake/brownies - and he frequently eats seeds (sunflower, sesame, pumpkin) on the yummy bread we get over here (Germany). He has never seemed to have any reactions at all, but I have started to worry whether we are maybe building up to a possible allergic reaction by giving him seeds and the odd nut exposure at a relatively young age, and for this reason have decided to avoid nuts from now on, but it's difficult to avoid the seeds if we want nice bread, and I do like him to have them because he is pretty small and light for his age and they are a healthy yet calorific food. Are we actually storing up trouble for later, i.e. should we stop the seeds for a couple of years as well? Or is it probably OK because he doesn't seem to have any allergic tendencies? He eats things such as dairy and eggs with no apparent problem too.
I have to let dh on the computer now, but will be back to this tomorrow. TIA
