SlightlyMadSalmon · 05/07/2007 21:05

Did he not have an anaphylatic episode when he first came to the square and Stacey gave him a curry?

McDreamy · 05/07/2007 21:07

He's had curry before and stillnot learnt? D'oh

LyraB · 05/07/2007 21:08

The exact same thing happened when he first arrived in the square and Stacey cooked him a curry with nuts in it. It's getting a bit old now.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 05/07/2007 21:13

yep exactly the same but didnt have an epipen then i dont think, ambulance got called!

Alfie72 · 05/07/2007 21:22

Funny cos I watched it tonight too and being Mrs atopic I was a bit miffed !! I think he did give himself a shot of his epipen though, maybe they aren't allowed to show someone " shooting up" before the watershed ?

tatt · 06/07/2007 06:42

if they showed him "going out for air" then they are not following official advice which is to keep still, exercise making it worse.

Also should be made clear that he used his epipen - worse stuff is shown on TV than that.

I never watch Eastenders but I'll join in an e-mail complaint to the programmer makers if you point me in the right direction.

Incidentally there was a first aid training session at the school recently and they talked about using an epipen. Covered rather sketchily according to the children but better than nothing.

Pixiefish · 06/07/2007 06:45

He definetly pulled an epipen out of his pocket as he was walking out of the restaurant

tatt · 06/07/2007 06:50

so he walked out of the restaurant (on his own?), removing something from his pocket that most people wouldn't recognise. What then - went off to hospital to be checked over/ watched for secondary reaction or just went back and joined the others?

Nothing on the menu to say if the food was safe/ he didn't bother to say anything to the restaurant afterwards?

Misdee · 06/07/2007 20:42

didnt go to hospital afterwards.

which is making me

I confess I don't watch Eastenders, but unfortunately, being so few people aware of what an anaphylactic shock is, this is not definitively helping them to understand what they are and that they are urgent-move-your-a*- quick things.

One mum kindly offered to take care of DS, I said that I would show her how to take care of him and then let her decide whether she wanted or not (not that I do this with everyone who offers to do it but she tends to misjudge what nuts are). I mentioned that if an attack happened the problem was time sensitive, her answer: "But, I suppose they wouldn't make him wait for long in A&E, they would allow him in before less urgent cases" Doh, jumping the queu at A&E is not a problem but being lucky enough to get to the hopital alive!

There was also someone telling me his child had had an anaphylactic shock during a flight, well it wasn't, just a tingling in the tongue after eating brazil nuts.

tatt · 11/07/2007 19:21

decided to make a complaint about this - just about them showing him moving when he should have stayed still. Their response was clearly a stock reply - said we didn't see them order so don't know what he asked, that he asked for his medication and as he wasn't seriously ill they joked about it afterwards.

Anyone else wishing to register their annoyance can make a complaint here www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/make_complaint_step1.shtml

Mumfie68 · 12/07/2007 07:28

Don't forget to complain to Ofcom too, this kind of portrayal of anaphylaxis is irresponsible and makes it much harder for us who suffer/have relatives who suffer to get our message across as to how serious this is, when Ofcom hear that kind of thing they tend to act!
