Allergies later in life?

Hi

Has anyone ever developed an allergy later on in life?

As a child I grew up with a dog and have always loved them and been around them. Me and my fiancé got a dog nearly 4 years ago now (same breed as I had as a child), and for the last 3 years I have had a blocked/itchy/stuffy nose! I know 3 years seems like an exaggeration but it's really not haha! 3 years ago I went to my gp and said I can barely taste or smell and I have a cold 24/7, she said I probably just had hay fever. Which i did sometimes suffer from but not all year round.

I basically just accepted the fact that I am one of those people who have a constant blocked nose but am now starting to think could it possibly be the dog?

My friend had dogs her whole life. Recently diagnosed with asthma & consultant sent her for allergy testing to rule out allergies as a trigger. Skin prick test was positive for dog allergy.

Maybe look into that test? Would confirm for you.

My mum developed allergies when she was 50. No issues at all before that. She's now allergic to several types of pollen and cats. Interestingly, we had a cat in our home the entire time I was going up, and I've always had cats in my home as an adult. They never bothered her until her allergies popped up.

Yep. In the last few years (I'm 38) I've developed a severe (level 6) allergy to cats and dust. I've had cats all my life and 2 at the moment. GP diagnosed by taking and sending off bloods.

Ps I cope by taking antihistamines and use an hepa filter at home (air purifier)
