Ski trip and epi-pen allergies

I'm over worrying about something that isn't even pencilled in yet Blush.

DS would like to go skiing with the school in a couple of years. He's allergic to pine nuts and kiwi fruit. Tbh it's mainly the pine nuts that worries me, they can be easily hidden or used to top food.

Has anyone sent a very allergic child on a trip like this? How did the school and / or the travel company reassure you and plan ahead?

Have you successfully used the epipen? There are stories about the dosages being inadequate, You should check this out first

We've never needed the epi-pen yet.
He also has an Emerade pen. He has adult adrenaline pens.

@Confusedbeetle that's a bit scaremongery and not what the OP was asking!

@megletthesecond my DS is a long way from school trips but already the thought of him going off on his own fills me with dread!

I guess you need to work with the school and ensure the airline, hotel, and activity centre are all aware. The school will have a risk assessment to do and I assume the staff are trained with epipen and basic life support.

I've seen on some allergy groups where people have had little cards made up in different languages saying "I'm allergic to xxx. I carry an epipen". I have little allergy alert keyrings on DS's backpacks etc... but that's not very cool when you're a teenager.

Most importantly he needs to be aware and alert.
