Milk ladder

Morning all!
For anyone doing the milk ladder, which one are you using please?
There’s a six step one and a 12 step one. The 12 step looks like it’s easing into dairy a bit more gently than the 6 step, if that makes sense?
Dietician has given me the 6 step to follow but wanted advice on here too please.
Thanks all! Flowers

We started yesterday! Just a corner of a malted milk and no reaction so far! I think I might design my own 8 step ladder as I have the same thoughts as you Grin. 6 seems too fast but 12 seems to have some steps almost identical like malted milk biscuits and digestives are 2 different steps. Also she's not going to be able to eat shepherd's pie every day for a week! I found one based on exactly how long the cheese is cooked for which makes sense to me

Good luck!

I might do a mix of all three then, thank you!
Good luck to you as well 😊 it’s daunting isn’t it! Dietician has told me to try each step for three days then move up. He’s had malted milk biscuits for three days (one biscuit the first day then two biscuits for the next two days). Yesterday was day one of step 2, a fairy cake. I’m also reading lots of conflicting advice on quantity and for how long. Like you’ve said, you’ve been advised quarter of a biscuit and each step for 7 days, whereas I’ve been told differently. I’ve found that a lot though, ‘medical professionals’ conflicting each other with their advice.

I'm on a group on Facebook who really recommend the Norfolk and Norwich hospital ladder, available at workplacehealthandwellbeing.co.uk/publication/download/milk-ladder-for-cows-milk-reintroduction-at-home-v1 .

We haven't started the milk ladder but I think it's the one I'm going to use as it is gives you guidelines on quantities and how long at a minimum you need to spend on each step. It also has lots of alternative foods for each step other than the first which strikes me as much more practical.

PinkDaydreams · 27/01/2019 09:37

Yes a lot more practical!! She gave me a few recipes but realistically I don’t want to be making 20 pancakes/finger biscuits/muffins to then find that he either doesn’t like them or has a reaction.

bit of a zombie thread I know but wondering how you've been getting on @PinkDaydreams?

Thank you to pp posting the Hillingdon ladder, it's very useful! - my child is nearly 6 and we are doing well so far - stge 1 on that one (which is stage 4 I guess on the usual ladder) so next week we are onto shepherds pie etc :)

@30not13 apologies for late reply, I’ve only just seen this!
Little one has done amazingly well considering how severe his allergies have been. He flew up the milk ladder which both his feeding nurse and dietician couldn’t believe! So happy Grin
He’s had skin prick tests which I pushed for and over the past few months he’s had a couple of food challenges in hospital environment as he’d reacted to these previously but he was fine in the hospital and ‘officially not allergic’.
Glad your little one is doing well. It’s hard though isn’t it? I know that I’ve felt that people don’t properly understand (or not interested) how serious food allergies are and can be quite blasé about it. I’ve had a few restaurants treat me like I’m being difficult when I’ve asked about ingredients in dishes.
You’ll get there in the end. I know on one of my tough days I kind of had an epiphany and thought ‘you know what, if he’s allergic for the rest of his life then we just deal with it’. There are so many alternatives out there now and I’m sure more will follow.
Good luck Flowers
