Has anyone any experience with babies that have cow milk protein allergies/lactose intolerance because my baby boys suffering countless milk changes and different medicines back and fourth to the doctors and hospital and he’s still suffering terribly and I’m coming to the end of my tether now it’s awful

He has been put on ranitidine for reflux he has gone from my breast milk (had to bring him off my breast as I had severe mastitis), cow and gate, cow and gate comfort, aptamil pepti 1 and is now on Nutramigen 1 seemed as if it was working for two days but today he has been screaming in discomfort all day haven’t been able to console him he has been drinking nowhere near his normal amount since On this milk and has been getting sick after and in between feeds (lots of sick) and then refused his last feed and screamed uncontrollably until I managed to get him to sleep in his car seat (seems to be the only place he will settle.. it really is awful any one that can shed abit of light would be great.

I’m a first time mom and My baby boy has been nothing but unsettled since he came off my breast I just want my happy content baby back :(

How long is it since you last breast fed? Is relactation an option? X

Louhxrt · 26/01/2019 21:41

He is coming up to 9 weeks I breast fed for just over two and have now dried up 😖 x

You can still relactate, I didn't breastfeed for 5 weeks and managed to initiate a full supply (though my baby never went back on the breast) for reasons similar to you x

They just couldn't tolerate formula. Is absolutely fine with cows milk.

Yes. My son has severe cows milk allergy and had severe reflux when younger. We got put on to neocate and things improved tenfold. I had to battle to get the drs to prescribe it as it's expensive but you could order some online to try and if he tolerated it then argue with your go.

My dd suffered from hidden reflux. I went to the gp a lot and they had no solutions, but brought her to a pediatrician in the US and she prescribed a stay down formula (Enfamil AR). We gave a bottle a day on top of the breast milk, which helped enormously. It also got better when she started solids. I also put dd to sleep on her tummy (despite the recommendations against it) as it was the only way to keep her from being in pain and getting her to sleep. We would also find that carrying her around in "tiger" position was helpful....hold the baby horizontally, palming the belly with face towards the floor. Once she was fully on solids (around 1 year with dd) she got much much better.

We had this (12 years ago now) but my boy was on Nutramigen and milk thickener.

We tried every suggestion from Gaviscon, Ranitidine etc and nothing worked.
In desperation I begged for milk thickener. We mixed the Nutramigen in with the thickener and created 'thickshakes'. It was like a miracle.

Months of seeing my baby squirm and scream in agony, sickness, weight loss, was gone. We'd tried so many medications and in the end this milk thickener was what saved him from all that pain.

I hope you try it and it works.

My cousin had problems like this with both her babies and she used a tummy tub, which helped immensely. It might be worth looking into? I couldn't use formula milk with DD1, as she was allergic to the colouring in it and put up with her vomiting all the time because she was allergic to what I was eating and feeding her through the breast milk. Nobody thought of allergies until much later down the line, and it was 4 years after her birth that I discovered that formula has colouring in it to make it more appealing to the mothers. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.

littlecandle that's interesting because LO tolerates dairy products fine but literally could not drink any formula without screaming and vomiting. When I relactated I could eat cheese and drink milk with no issues for LO.

I would review with the gp and switch to neonate. DS has CMPA, soy and egg allergies. I breastfed but neonate was the only formula option for him.

He was on massive doses of ranitidine but kept loosing his voice from reflux and eventually switched to omeprazole which helped.
