Are there any other alternatives to this? Can't imagine how I'll I'd be if I did this.

Why do you need to eat it for 2 weeks? For coeliac testing its normally 6 weeks you need to be eating gluten for

ragmayo · 23/11/2018 23:29

My gp said two weeks 🤦‍♀️

www.coeliac.org.uk/coeliac-disease/getting-diagnosed/blood-tests/ says 6 weeks

Thank you for the link. Dreading this is an understatement

It's six weeks! I need to do this and am dreading it. Keep having blood tests and they are inconclusive as I don't eat enough gluten. Trying to push for the camera down the throat as that is the only way to get a firm diagnosis. Sad

I'm trying to brace myself to do it after Christmas but with gp involvement hopefully.
Can I ask you what your symptoms are during a reaction/flare up?

@ragmayo well I have Ulcerative colitis too, so some symptoms cross over between that and coeliacs. Both are autoimmune disorders so they are similar.
Some symptoms are Mouth ulcers, bruising very easily, anaemic, lm short etc
And then the worst such as going to the loo minimum 10 times a day and passing blood and mucus.
Consultant suspects I have both!

ragmayo · 28/11/2018 07:37

@azulmariposa I'm suspecting ulcerative colitis too! The bleeding and mucus, but I find I only bleed after wheat. The last flare lasted 11 days. Had an op once and surgeon told me I was ulcerated inside, though moved house then and new doctors don't seem to have record of this or the op.
Can you give me any advice please re getting diagnosed?
Also best of luck to you and hope they agree to the endoscopy

Well if colitis is suspected then you need a colonoscopy, as the inflammation is lower than the stomach.
A flare lasts for me a minimum of three months, the longest flare has been two years.
Unfortunately you really need to be in a flare when they do the test, otherwise the inflammation will not show on the camera, but they usually do a biopsy too.

@azulmariposa thank you. Best of luck to you
