Very intense fructose malabsorption symptoms for years :(

Does anyone have fructose malabsoroption? I have it quite bad to the extent I find it tougher than lactose intolerance.

Things like apples (always), mangoes (always), watermelon (always), bananas (often) are a complete nightmare - I always feel very bloated, have terrible skin the next few days, headache, intense diarrhea, noisy tummy and even depressed (surprisingly this can happen) so it's almost like a hangover or even worse. I've heard it's to do with having fewer fructose receptors in the gut than "normal people"..

Once I figured out I was reacting to fructose, I've cut out any cakes/biscuits containing fructose as well as apples, mangoes (i.e. high frucose fruits). It makes sense that it's fructose I'm reacting to as things like honeydew melon and berries (low fructose fruits) I'm usually fine with.

Has anyone been able to "cure" this with supplements or by avoidance followed by slight reintroduction? or any other ways? :(

I've ever been mad keen on fruit. It's high in sugar anyway. Just eat more veg instead and chill out?

I feel your pain! Cut it all out and slowly reintroduce and see where your tolerance levels are. Do you have the help of a dietitian?

We always assumed DS (13) was dairy intolerant and is under the care of a gastro consultant. However a dairy exclusion diet has been inconclusive and we are now suspecting fructose intolerance. Celiac tests came back negative.

Symptoms include awful cramps, alternating between constipation and diarrhoea - ridiculous amount of time off school due to the pain.

Sorry not intolerance - meant malabsorption (am aware they're 2 different conditions)

I have this. Not a great deal I've been able to do except avoid. God forbid I drink a smoothie...

Sorry, not great news!

Sometimes when bloated and ill I take digestive enzymes but whether or not they target the fructose I don't know, I do know they make me feel better though (But i have multiple intolerances)
