looks like my little boy has another allergy. Given him kiwi tonight - he is just 2 and allergic to eggs, sesame and peanuts. Didnt know should be careful with kiwi til just checked it out on web. Does anyone know if this is one that is likely to be outgrown? He got a red rash on his face with little white bumps on and made his eczema itch. Feeling a bit low about it all again.

I'm not surprised you're feeling a bit low - must be really hard for you. I'm still allergic to kiwi I'm afraid and I'm 42. There is something in kiwi that quite a lot of people react to I think. I'm not allergic to anything else though if that makes you feel better

how bad is your reaction?

My lips swell up

My lips and tongue swell up and the whole inside of my mouth feels itchy. I can just pick kiwi out of a fruit salad if it's in there so it's not that severe.

colditz · 19/06/2007 10:37

Mine isn't severe either.

I react in exactly the same way as Cazzybee, and I can pick it out of a fruit salad and be ok too. I am also allergic to fur, feathers, and certain nuts - walnuts, hazelnuts and brazils, but not peanut or coconut or almond

yeah my dd is allergic to kiwi too. Found out on a skin prick test. Never really fed her it unless she ever tasted it at playschool when she was smaller. Been told to avoid it for a couple years. She is also allergic to peanuts and lots more

I remember reading somehting in the past few months about under 5's and Kiwi. It seems to be becoming a very common allergy due to small children being given it at nurseries, etc. The advice was to simply avoid giving it to under 5's then introduce it gradually to check for reaction.

my son has kiwi allergy he is now 11yrs and his rateing was so low they think that he may have a chance of growing out of it.

But its not important. Its an allergy that is easy to avoid. we celebrated when he grew out of his egg allergy.
