Alpro yoghurt

Evening all!
Going to try make this simple so it’s not too long to read!
Little one has CMPA and GERD. He’s doing really well regarding weaning. Had hospital appointment with his nurse on Monday and she said to try soya yoghurt. Tried alpro vanilla for 5 days with no problems at all. Yesterday lunch gave him some alpro unsweetened (didn’t realize quite how much sugar the vanilla one has in it 😳). Queue allergic reaction and having to dash to hospital with him. The hosp said it’ll be the preservatives/additives he’s reacted to so I checked the ingredients when I got home and the only thing different the plain has that the vanilla doesn’t is 3% extra soya.
Has anyone else found that their little one reacts to different flavours?
Thank you!

I recall from when my little one had cmpa that about 50% of children with cow's milk allergy also have soya milk allergy. It could be that it took the second exposure for his allergy to surface? Unless a slower reaction to something else? Must be v frustrating for you!

How many times did you try the first yoghurt? Sometimes the allergy doesn't come straight away. My DS has quite a few allergies, but we haven't tried him on nuts yet. The allergy clinic said we have to do it twice.

He had the vanilla flavour every day for five days and there was no reaction at all

His nurse is on holiday and so is his specialist, there’s no one else available to speak to! I was going to speak to them and ask about it.

Ds can't tolerate milk, he also can't have soya, eggs or some fruit. You may find that if your child reacts to milk he may have additional intolerance/allergies.

He may have struggled with the additional amount of soya. So he may be able to tolerate it in small amounts, but the extra 3% tipped him over the edge.

The doctor said to try him with it again in a couple of weeks

Soya allergy is very common. Because of this I've steered clear of using soya products to replace dairy for DD.

Little coconutter pouches are apparently very nice and mostly we use plain coconut yoghurt for DD. It is very fatty so don't give loads to start with as little tummies might not cope well with big quantities of something fatty (this is not medically backed up, just my hunch with DD!).

He’s had the coconut yoghurt before which he loved, it was his nurse that suggested the soya yoghurt then try normal bread. He’s doing great with bread. Maybe like @super said, the extra soya tipped him over the edge. To be honest, it’s easy enough to avoid soya so I’m not too bothered. It has knocked my confidence a little with weaning but I need to keep thinking how well he’s done so far.
