I'm itchy all the time. All tests negative. Itchy eyes, itchy skin 24/7.

Have tried
Promethazine_ useless
Clarityn useless
Piriton Ok for itchyness, Crap for eyes
Fenoxadine_ amazing but made me feel suicidal
Piriteaze ok for eyes, not very good for itchiness even on double dose.

What else is there? I'm itching like a man on a fuzzy tre😭

I take either cetirizine hydrochloride or loratadine (whichever is cheapest/available in B&M or Asda) every day for my perennial allergic rhinitis.

Have you tried these? Or changing your diet?

MsForestier · 19/07/2018 21:25

I think Piriton is Cetirizine Goingrogue. Ds is on it daily.

MsForestier · 19/07/2018 21:27

Nope, I'm wrong!

MsForestier · 19/07/2018 21:29

Piriteze is Cetirizine.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/07/2018 21:29

Pirirteaze is certirizine. Clarytin is Loretadine.😭

I use flixonase nasal spray. I find it way better than tablets.

mintich · 19/07/2018 21:29

Benadryl in the blue pack not orange. It's acrivastine, only thing that works for me

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 19/07/2018 21:30

OH no - just came in here to say fexofenadine

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/07/2018 21:30

Isn't that for itchy noses?

OP posts:
TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/07/2018 21:31

I had the same problem for years and took a ceterizine every day. Turns out that I'm very histamine sensitive and many anti-histamines make it worse in the long run as they are diamine oxidase blockers (an enzyme in the body that breaks down excess histamine). I now have awful eczema as a result of DAO blocking medication and have to be on alow histamine diet for the next 4 weeks while my body sorts itself out. Don't take anymore antihistamines and do some research before you end up a scaly flakey scabby mess like me!

HereForTheLaughs · 19/07/2018 21:37

BecoAllergy tablets really work for me, can get them in Boots. Better than Piriton etc.

Furrycushion · 19/07/2018 21:41

I recommend Flixonase but you have to start taking it a month or so before you would expect the symptoms to start. That plus fexofenadine seem to do it for our family, although I have to say DS was really bad this year but may not have been very compliant in taking the meds

Kingkiller · 19/07/2018 21:45

I get chronic urticaria (hives) every couple of years. Antihistamines had no effect at all. A specialist recommended I take cetirizine and ranitidine (also sold as Zantac), which is actually an antacid. Within 30 mins of taking the first dose, my hives were totally gone!

GoingRogue · 19/07/2018 22:11

Oh I see, sorry, never bothered with expensive brands so didn't know what was what.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 19/07/2018 22:16

When DD’s hayfever is bad I give her loratadine and chlorphenamine (piriton).

pinkhorse · 19/07/2018 22:20

Beconase nose spray is a lifesaver for me. Noyhing else works at all.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 20/07/2018 08:27

I’m waiting to see an allergist. I want to scratch my eyes out and skin off this morning. It’s awful😭

Can you combine anti histamines?

OP posts:
Whitelisbon · 20/07/2018 08:31

Try taking piriton and piriteze?
If one works for your eyes, and the other for the itching?
Ds takes 2 separate antihistamines every day (currently atarax and loratidine), and has done since he was about 18 months.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 20/07/2018 09:37

Yes you can of they have different acting agents. A bit like paracetamol and ibuprofen. Maybe take at intervals not at the same time but when i said I did that with DD my GP said it was fine.

Weathergirl1 · 04/08/2018 17:44

Another urticaria/hayfever sufferer here!

Agree with the ranitadine - currently just taking that on its own, no H1 blocker.

Also for eyes, suggest Opticrom eye drops. Active ingredient, sodium cromoglycate, is a mast cell stabiliser. I also make up a cream with this and Eucerin/ glycerine which I apply to hives and really does seem to make a difference ( recipe from the International Chronic Urticaria Society - they're on Facebook).

Quercetin (found in rooibos tea) is a natural antihistamine which I think k is also helping me. You can get it in tablet form too from various supplement suppliers (Holland & Barrett currently out of stock).

Have been low histamine for the best part of 9 months now and slowly reintroducing riskier foods - think this has also helped me.
