Possibly allergy to washing powder?

I’ve been using Persil non-bio liquid for years, without any problems in terms of allergies/sensitivities in my three DC. When my washing machine started to smell a bit, I googled ‘reasons why washing machines smell’ (good old google!) and it turns out that liquid detergent can accumulate in the machine and start to rot and go mouldy. Apparently powders don’t do that...

So! About a month ago I changed to the powder version of Persil non-bio, and everyone was fine. Last night, my DS2 (4) came out in a few hives after the bath. Didn’t think much of it as often they get blotches from the bath. This morning, those red blotches were gone, but his whole body started to come out in hives. I gave him some Piriton and took him to nursery, went to check on him at 10 (teacher asked me to), and they had spread to his face, legs and arms.

Is this a ‘delayed’ detergent allergy (and can that even be a thing?!) or do you think he’s eaten something/played in something that’s triggered it? Nothing else obvious has changed in regards to diet/where he plays.

Btw he’s not unwell in himself, just a little itchy, so I don’t think it warrants a doctor’s trip.

I just don’t know whether to wait it out and hope that it goes quickly (and we’ll never know what caused it) or do I immediately wash his clothes in the old liquid before he wears anything else?!

Hope someone can help!!

Sorry, when I said ‘his whole body’ came out in hives, I actually meant he started getting a few hives on different parts of his body! He doesn’t have them on torso.

Hi!
I find many different washing powders irritate my skin hugely. Maybe that is what has happened here. I think people having irritant/allergic reactions to washing powders may be more common than people think. Allegies/irritant reactions can develop when using something that was previously OK. I reckon try switching to my washing powder. If you have residue in the washing machine, clean it out as thoroughly as you can. Also it took me a lot of washes to get the residue of the old detergents out of my clothes. Here's my washing powder: www.savvygreen.net/product/laundry/laundry-detergent. I have found it via Amazon and Ocado in the UK. And soap (in case it is related to the bath) I have found this. www.etsy.com/uk/listing/493074376/milk-honey-and-oats-castile-soap-natural?ref=shop_home_active_16 Good luck!
