Dairy and soya free in France

We’re off to Southern Brittany for May half term...
Any top tips for yummy things to look out for for DD in supermarkets there (SuperU, Intermarché and Lidl near where we’re staying)?
I’ve downloaded some allergy cards for if we do eat out, but have read that a lot of places aren’t great for that as most things are cooked in butter. She’s intolerant rather than allergic, so ends up with bad tummy pains etc rather than being sick/ rashes or anything worse. Not nice for her, but also not life threatening so we’ll see.
I’ve been online to see if I can identify some brands to look out for when we’re shopping, but I’m not having lots of luck!
Thanks Smile

For supermarket shopping, look for the "Bio" section. They have a good selection, better than the UK I have found. I'm not sure about eating out though.

I'm dairy free and I've found eating out in France quite difficult. They just love their butter and cream and they go in everything!

Thank you both...
Childrenofthesun I’ll look out for those - that’s great.
MollyHuaCha that’s what I was worried about... thanks.

I live in southern Brittany where are you visiting? I'm just being nosy

Lidl is rubbish for dairy and soya free, you might get more choice in the larger supermarkets and most definitely in the bio food shops, for example if you are in Vannes Biogolfe is one, but there are more. They can usually be found in the commercial centers.

If you’re driving and have the space I suggest you take some of DDs favourite DF&SF alternatives with you.
There are some excellent organic (“bio”) shops in France so you’ll find stuff there but i think the average supermarket will have a limited selection. And eating out will be tricky.

If you’re on Facebook there are some good groups for CMPA and other allergies, you might find more recommendations there.

brittanyfairies We’re visiting Port Navalo, Arzon. Thanks for the bio food shop recommendations. We’ll look out for those. Smile
NameChange30 Yes, we have a campervan, so I was planning on taking bits for her in case. She likes trying new things so if I can find her a few bits and pieces she’ll be happy! I’ll have a look on Facebook - thank you. Smile

How did you get on in France?

RosieBdy · 04/07/2018 21:15

Hi MrsPCR
We had a great time and managed food for DD ok.
I googled and found this site that had translation cards for allergies, then amalgamated ones for dairy and soya, adapting it to say DD instead of I have... etc
We ate out once and I didn’t actually use the card, as I’d learnt the phrases and did ok at explaining...
In the supermarkets there wasn’t a lot of choice, but I’d spent some time online before we went and managed to log on both local supermarkets as if I was doing a home delivery and just clicked on lots of things to check the ingredients... I then took screenshots of those that were ok so I knew what to look for once we were there.
I’d taken Oatly and bread (the baguettes were all fine but we didn’t find any sliced bread that was ok. She loves baguettes so it wouldn’t have been a problem.)
We’re going again next year it was so lovely...
