Suncreams

I need help, I cannot find a Sun Cream I don't react to. I have tried loads but always end up itching for days after using it. I had to put some on yesterday because we were out for the day but my arms are really itchy today. My DD can only use Avon Kids but I can't use Avon sun creams. Has anybody got any suggestions? I was thinking of maybe emailing some of the makers and asking for samples.

My son reacts less to Ultrasun sensitive than he does to others.

ArfArfBarf · 07/05/2018 13:38

I use an ultrasun factor 50

This one

Owletterocks · 07/05/2018 13:41

Following this, both my dc’s are terrible with suncream. I used piz buin allergy and they reacted to that. I will give the ultra sun a go now. Any other ideas would be welcome!

Posted on another thread about the same issue, but anyway, you probably react to chemical sunscreens, and so a physical block is more likely to be fine. You need something that says “mineral “ on it. Avenue do a mineral only one ( in the white tube, the orange tube is a chemical based screen ) in a factor 50, La Roche Posay also do a mineral block, as do Clarins in their children’s range. boots Soltan used to do one too. Check ingredients, I react to oxybenzone, and methoxycinnamate. You need to look for titanium dioxide or zinc oxide as the sunscreen agent as they are inert and don’t cause reactions. If you still react then it will be the perfume or preservatives that are most probably the issue, in which case a mineral powder will work, if it is for your face.

Green people organic kids factor 30. It's great.

I also use the etude house mild airy finish mineral factor 50 on my face. It's amazing.

I'm super allergic to the butyl dibenzoylmethane sunscreen that's in most brands so it's mineral all the way for me.

I asked on here last year or the year before under a different name, I think, after dd took a reaction to a cream. I was recommended Jason Sun, amongst others, but I tried this one first and she was fine with it. I get it from Holland and Barratt. It’s £11.99 for a 4oz tube but she’s fine with it so I’ve stuck with it.

Have you / can you request skin patch testing from a dermatology clinic? At least it would help identify the specific trigger/s.

If it's the Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (avobenzone) that you're reacting to, you'll need a mineral sunscreen, but there is also this one which is available to order, someone on S&B recommended it as being avobenzone free.

My ds has a sun cream allergy, I have spent hundreds on so many different creams trying to find one that didn't bring him out in an awful rash. I took him to the GP because I really didn't know where to go next and she prescribed uvistat 50 which is fantastic. She thinks that it's sold in boots but I'm yet to find it.....

Jason made my toddler break out in spots all over his face.

We use Moo Goo cover up buttercup which is zinc based so it blocks rather than filters. Its 15 SPF which I know sounds very low but it's 94% of suns rays rather than 97% so I weigh up the difference. I use this and we cover up a lot!

You could also look on this comparison site for various - mostly facial - sunscreens, available for import from Japan. I use Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50 on my face, every day.

SirVixofVixHall · 07/05/2018 15:53

I also react to Avobenzone.

Dizzylin · 07/05/2018 18:00

Thank you. I will look for a mineral one.
