Egg,Milk, Wheat Free Birthday Cake Recipe???

Hammo · 09/08/2004 12:36

My Son is about to celebrate his 2nd Birthday and I desperately want to have a great big birthday cake for him to eat like everyone else at his party. I am not very good at coming up with replacements for things and my previous attempts with baking cakes with the special flours were not brilliant. Any good recipies or does anyone know of where you can buy such a thing????

Hammo, can sympathise with you. I need exactly the same thing for my Ds next month. And a normal cake for everyone else! Was just going to make a mini one for him using Nutramagin milk and wheatfree gluten free flour from sainsburys. But any ideas you get from this thread i may have to pinch if you dont mind

a COMPLETELY different approach, but my birthday is in October, and my Mum used to organise outdoor and barbecue parties for me, and once made a most fantastic mashed potato cake, decorated with peas and sweetcorn in a pattern on top, sausages standing up all round the edge....and sparklers and candles on top.

CP3, more than welcome to pinch! Here's hoping that something comes up!

Now I seem to remember making such a cake and the recipe was in the back of "What to expect - in the first year" You know the series??? Anyway it was very tasty (its a kind of fruit cake)altough looked a bit peculiar, I think though if you decorate it it would be okay. I however ran out of time and they were only one and....

Could you try a really cool jelly mould......how about a car or train?? I've no experience with allergies/coelic sufferers - sorry!

try Molly Cake its a delicious moist fruit cake. Its sugar, fat, and egg free but does contain flour. Maybe you could use a glutten free alternative. To make into a birthday cake it could be iced the way you'd do a christmas cake.

250g stoned dates, roughly chopped
290ml water
85g plain flour
3tsp baking powder
1tsp ground mixed spice
85g wholemeal flour
500g mixed dried fruit (any)
50g ground almonds
80ml orange juice

METHOD
Preheat oven to 170 C and line a 900g loaf tin with baking parchment.

Put dates and water in a pan and bring to the boil, remove pan from heat and set aside.

Sieve plain flour, baking powder and mixed spice in a bowl. Add wholemeal flour,
mixed fruit and ground almonds and stir to combine.

Stir in wet date mixture and orange juice and mix well.

Spoon into the loaf tin.

Bake for 45 - 50 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean. Turn out onto a wire rack and cool.

Also have recipes for fruit cake if you want it

Hammo · 20/08/2004 13:32

Thanks again for the fab info. I have also been in contact with a company that have done wheat free, milk free or egg free cakes but never all three removed from the recipe together. I have handed in some gluten free flour and the baker is going to attempt a cake and let me know how he feels about the results before agreeing to make one. So you never know I could have a fantastic big Bob The Builder Cake that he can touch and eat if he wants! I will keep you posted.

SUCCESS!!!!!!!! The Baker was happy enough with his results that he agreed to make the cake. So on Saturday we had a Fab birthday party with a great big Barney Birthday Cake. With 22 2 year olds, 6 babies and 5 over 5's it was of course a bit mad, but lots of fun was had which is the main thing!

If anyone is interested the company was
