I give up!!!!!!

my now 6 month old has suffered with "baby eczema" since about 3-4 weeks old weve tried everything 7 types of steroid creams about 14 moisterizers including childs farm, aveeno and lush dream cream!!!!

Weve tried changing her milk her foods everything and nothing is working her eczema now is the worst ive seen it its been infected several times!!

The wierd thing is its worse on her face her body is manageable with any moisterizer but her face just keeps getting worse and worse!!!

Doctors are saying because shes happy dont worry but they dont have to put up with people constantly commenting on her face. Shes a gorgeous baby always smiling always laughing, and people just have negative things to say about her face im at my whits end now i cant cope there must be something thats causing it to get this bad but noone will give me any answers they just shot steriod creams at me and send me on my way im just lost now i dont know where or who to turn to!!!!

Both my babies were similar at 6 months and both had grown out of it by 1. GP prescribed Oilatum for their baths (both times) and I found that the most effective moisturiser was a little olive oil! I also noted that it was aggravated by Primark clothes, however much I washed them. They are now 9 and 6, and have not been troubled with eczema since they were 1.

My ds had terrible baby eczema. Lots of cream regularly, lots of baths in Oilatum. We stopped using washing powder and even now if other people wash his clothes he itches.

By 18 months he was mostly clear, by 2 only occasional outbreaks at 15, apart from washing powder issues he is fine. You just have to hang in there. It's tough but it does get better.

I do remember it as a 'hard time' though. Best wishes.

Thankyou so much sometimes i feel like im being superficial becuase shes not bothered by it, it just dosent look very nice but it was literally in 3 areas (teething areas apparently) and now its spreading all aver her neck her eyes her ears and she gets poorly all the time becuase her immune system is too busy trying to fight her eczema she has trouble fighting off anything else i dont think shes going to have it for ever i just hope it goes before school age becuase kids can be mean x

Hi
I would advise you to stop using creams and steroid creams. They burn the skin. If you do want try ointment instead. It has higher oil ratio. I have eventually managed to control my eczema. I use Sebamed soap, and oils on my skin. Ariel non bio washpowder.

As summer is on its way I would also mention that a hat would be better than sunscreen on her face else Owwww!

I look at the ingredients of products and basically have a rule that if don't know what it is. I don't buy it. Weleda and Neils Yard are good BUT ££££'s. But any basic oil will be fine. Coconut, almond, olive etc.

If it has mote than about 7 ingredients it also goes back on the shelf.

Be especially aware of Lanolin, Lauric Acid, Sodium(s) Stearate, chloride. For me, those are an issue.

E.g. Dove soap...not a chance in hell 😂
Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Sodium Tallowate Or Sodium Palmitate, Lauric Acid, Sodium Isethionate, Water, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoate Or Sodium Palm Kernelate, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium Edta, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891).

Love, I’ve suffered with it for 22 years. The only thing that’s worked is steroid tablets which they wouldn’t give me until I was 21 years old.

It is the absolute stuff of nightmares. I hope baby grows out of it (like they said I would Hmm)

LemonysSnicket · 25/04/2018 09:51

Also- cotton clothes, humidifiers and air purifiers in rooms if you can. Antihistamines and vacuum carpet every day without fail. No bio washing powder and only use eczema friendly or extremely sensitive fabric softener. Don’t use shampoo in them and avoid anything with lanolin.

Salt water always helped mine as a child.

LemonysSnicket · 25/04/2018 09:52

And actually, if it makes you feel better, other than a short time when I was 9... other children didn’t comment on my eczema.

Sian94 · 25/04/2018 10:31

This is brilliant thank you so much i was unsure whether to use coconut oil as its a nut and shes only 6 months old ill try a little bit on her skin first see if she gets a reaction then use that.

All the creams ive been told to use have like 14-15 ingredients in them no wonder its getting worse

I wondered if I should use the creams. I spoke to a consultant dermatologist and he said the biggest damage to babies comes from infections in the eczema because parents won't use enough cream.

After that conversation I slapped it on, handfuls of the stuff. When used like that on my ds, I found it worked and the skin did get batter.

Trygowithflow · 26/04/2018 09:52

Following as my baby also suffers. He's 8mo and has it all over but particularly face, wrists and neck. I've found food Smeared aggravates particularly tomato based things. Also his rubber bib. If keep this in check it limits his flare ups. Horrible condition 😫

loopyloo12 · 09/05/2018 21:11

Use lush dream cream it's like a miracle cream I've not Evan been using it for a week and my eczema has nearly cleared up x

Decoratingsucks · 09/05/2018 21:16

Is there anyway you can pay privately to see a dermatologist? The steroids GP’s prescribe are pretty rubbish.

I found when my baby developed eczema at 4 months that GP prescribed steroid would start working a little bit but then it would get even worse.

Also, to my knowledge eczema in a baby that young is usually allergy related. For my baby it was milk and eggs even though he wasn’t yet weaned.

Sian94 · 09/05/2018 21:43

Hey i finally got someone who listened to me and her formula was changed my daughters skin now is amazing i tried everything externally such as steriod creams all sorts of moisterizers it didnt help infact some of them made her eczema alot worse..

If your formula feeding suggest to your gp if you can switch it to nutramagen its working wonder for mine..

If your breastfeeding even though it is rare for allergies to occur try cutting dairy out of your diet and see how your little one gets on.

I was fobbed off by numerous doctors saying its not allergy related and it actually was i hope your get this sorted soon

😊
