How do I stop my 5 month old from scratching and pulling her ears, I've lost all faith in my gp as he's made all her issues that she's had worse!! I'm at my whits end now.

I have tried aveeno on her ears, vasoline, steroid cream, anti-bacterial cream, I've tried scratch mits when she's caused them to bleed until it settles and i cut her nails right down but she still manages to cut her skin when scratching.

I don't know what to do any more I can't keep putting scratch mits on her all the time as she is starting to explore I see my hv next week but it's getting really bad now and I don't know what else I can do

Have you considered a food diary and changing her diet? My ds has awful eczema. By 8 months people would say 'he doesn't look like an allergy child' because we eliminated the problem foods ... be wary, though, and please remember that total elimination may not be the best way forward...

She only has formula I spoke to the doctor about it possibly being a milk allergy and he said "It's an old wives tale that milk allergies affect the skin" that's why I've lost faith in my gp I can't exactly stop her milk I've already changed it once due to constipation I don't know what else I can do

My so had awful eczema as a baby and it was a dairy allergy. As soon as I swapped him onto soya, it went away!
Tell your GP you want a referral to the allergy clinic at hospital.

To be honest we have controlled her eczema as much as we can it rarely flares up it's mainly behind her ears she pulls and scratches so the bleed I don't know what else I can do

I'm another one who thinks it could be a dairy allergy. See a different gp and ask for a milk free formula prescription.

My 5 month old has been diagnosed with severe eczema however I am not convinced that’s what it is. It started with a cold at 6 weeks then a terrible rash on her face then bit by bit her skin deteriorated all over her body, now only parts of her legs and nappy area are clear. She also was diagnosed with a fungal infection which we treated with a shampoo and the patches seemed to disappear. My main concern is that the colour of her skin has completely lightened across the affected areas, it’s very dramatic and not in patches, it’s her entire skin. It’s all rough and very light. Not sure if it’s skin damage or what is going on but it’s really worrying. I thought eczema appeared in specific areas and flared up and down where as this is constant and everywhere. Anyone else deal with anything similar?

What do you wash her with OP?

Sian94 · 03/03/2018 20:05

My LG was like this at the beginning it was so bad it looked like burns all over her body we changed the washing powder to fairy non bio gel and it pretty much cleared the majority of it up it's mainly her face and ears I struggle to control now

If it’s mainly her ears that she keeps scratching, can you get a lightweight hat to keep on her instead of covering her hands? Maybe a lovely bamboo fabric so it’s soft and breathable? You can find some online with a chin strap to prevent her from taking it off easily. I’d also try and get a referral for an allergy specialist. Good luck!

Aww thankyou yeah I think I want to see an allergy specialist I see my hv on Friday I'll inquire then
