Advice on introducing dairy products please

DD is now 6 months old and I'm thinking about widening the range of foods that she has, but not sure what to do about dairy products. I had bad excema as a child so hoped to breastfeed exclusively until 6 months, but that didn't work out and I've had to give her formula. Is there any point delaying the introduction of dairy products, given that she has already had formula and has already developed excema?

I cant see why not as formula is based on dairy and she already has excema.

The manufacturing process of formula modifies the molecules though. I would say no, with the possible exception of yoghurt (though I would give probiotics mixed with fruit puree in preference).

I would also avoid the following:

fish
wheat
eggs
citrus
tomato
pineapple
peanut and peanut butter
yeast based spreads such as marmite

But then this is just me, and it does mean you can't really use any commercial baby food.

can anyone explain about delaying dairy products when weaning, if baby already has formula milk? When discussed with pediatric nurse few weeks ago she just said formula is made from cows milk anyway, and if you avoid all dairy products then would be depriving baby of essential nutrients etc?? my dh has asthma, excema, nut allergy etc, and she said you won't know if he will react to dairy, wheat etc, unless you try it!! Confused, and haven't even started weaning yet!!

Thanks toddlerbob, but that's a long list of things to avoid! Not giving wheat makes things really difficult. There's no history of problems with any of the things on the list in the family, as far as i know. Does the fact that DD already has one allergy make her more susceptible to others? And if so, how long would you avoid the things on the list for?
