as her skin welted up when she touched some egg white part cooked in baked alaska.

Asked Gp he said no way as she eats cakes biscuits etc blah blah blah.

a couple of months ago, i thought i would try her with some omlette, she was fine.

today she had scrambled eggs. underneath her eyes went black (atopic shiners) and she came up with a small spotty rash, not nettle rash. she looked really unwell with it.

what do you think?

I think your GP is wrong, tbh, isn't there a considerable difference between egg as an ingredient in cakes/pastry and actual egg dishes?

FWIW ds was sick the first couple of times I tried him with eggs when he was tiny. No allergic reaction as such, just sick. So didn't bother for a while. Now he won't eat them! But he's fine with cakes etc. etc.

Would be interesting to try skin reaction again.

edam · 29/04/2007 22:31

Did she have MMR, btw? Mumps bit is cultured on chicks, IIRC.

misdee · 29/04/2007 22:35

she did yes, but not untill last month lol. they made us stay for extra time afetrwards to keep an eye on her. again was fine.

her face just went a dusky colour, the shiners came out, and this small spotty type rash.

my gut feeling is gp is wrong as well tbh. they have me down an anxious mother. because i said dd3 had had a strange reaction. funny that a few weeks later she had a similar one and woumd up in hospital. grrr.

if she was OK with omelette but not scrambled egg it doesn't really sound like an egg allergy but it could be if the egg wasn't as well cooked. I'd probably avoid egg for a while to be on the safe side.

misdee · 29/04/2007 23:45

hmmm good point tatt. both omlette and scrambled eggs were very well cooked.

Sometimes you can be fine with cooked egg and not raw egg, in an omlett the egg is quite cooked whereas in scrambled egg its still quite runny.

It could be that some parts were not cooked enough so she had a reaction.

My dd was the same to begin with but now she cant eat cooked egg or derevitives either.

misdee · 30/04/2007 10:59

no this scrambled eggs were firm.

but found out the what the rash was, she woke up boiling hot this morning. been to the GP, and she has a throat infection and viral rash.

so will try her again with eggs soon. if i can be brave about it.

Sorry to hear that misdee, perhaps the gp can refer her to have a blood test to see whant she is sensitive too he will if you ask, tell him you are worried.

amidaiwish · 30/04/2007 11:05

personally i wouldn't try her with lightly cooked egg again until she is 3.

My DD2 has an egg allergy (confirmed by skin prick test) but is fine with egg in cake etc.

not worth the risk imo. and you may trigger an allergy that she may otherwise not develop / soon grow out of if you expose her to it again.

amidaiwish · 30/04/2007 11:05

oh and MMR no longer cultured in egg.
