Should i cut out dairy while BF allergic ds?

DS is eleven months and last week had a allergic reaction to cheesecake topping (philly and full fat cream - eyes swelling and rash on face, calmed down with piriton). Hes had tiny bits of yogurt and cheese before but looking back he never seemed veyr keen and i wonder if you actually ate any.

His diet is now completely dairy free while i wait for an appointment at the hospital but i'm still bf and i've not cut out dairy, the gp and hv didn't think i needed to but i was looking for a some more opinions. If i did would i be best to cut out chocholate, biscuits containing milk products etc or would i just need to cut out 'straight' milk products?

Any suggestions?

Should be 'he never seemed very keen and i wonder now if he actually ate any'

My dd had extreme reaction to dairy but i had always eaten loads while bf-ing. dr suggested cutting it out of my diet. i did and dd stopped getting funny rashes and stopped being sick. i still have occassional bit of cheese but if i over indulge she is sick or gets rash.

My friend's ds had an allergic reaction to dairy and she cut it when bfing and his exzema [sp] she cut the lot.

This is what i was thinking about, i've cut down a lot as am too lazy to cook seperate meals for us so am basically following ds's dairy free diet but i still have milk in my tea and occasionally cereal (and quite often ice cream once he's in his bed). Did you stop eating chocolate and the like or just butter, cheese, yogurt, cream etc?

The gp and hv seem to think if it was a problem i'd know by know but ds is quite sicky sometimes, seems to get a lot of runny noses, can be really unsettled (although hasn't been so bad as he's gotton older) and now i don't know if the dairy thing is partly responsible or if he's just a normal, quite demanding, baby and i'm making mountains out of molehills.

i also thought dd was fine with my dairy filled diet but then when i cut it out i realised she had suffered from being sick alot and from minor rashes. nothing terrible but lots of little probs.

i avoid cereal as it requires alot of milk. i would say no to ice cream too. i do have the occassional cappucino and a bit of chocolate. its not as hard as i thought but i miss cheese (goats cheese gets boring).

Thanks artichoke tangine, i think i'm going to cut out all dairy starting tomorrow, shouldn't be that difficult apart from chocolate and i should really stop eating so much of that anyway.

How long did it take before you noticed a difference? Think i read somewhere you need to be dairy free for two weeks does that sound right?

She stopped being sick almost immediatley - 48 hours i think. The skin took a week or two. Good luck! I lapse sometimes (I had grated cheese on my pasta tonight) but most of the time it is OK. I also hope his appt at the hospital goes OK. Ours was good and they tested DD for various other allergies so now we know never to give her egg as well.

Sorry - it is artichoke trying out a new name!
