Allergy warning

Just a heads up to parents - recently purchased a seeded loaf from Morrisons only to find it contained walnuts (daughter no.2 has a nut allergy - thankfully she realised quickly and we were able to treat) have been complaining to store and head office but still waiting to hear back and find out if it was mislabelled by store or a supplier mistake.
Just want to remind parents to double check first before giving to kids.

Thanks Zelda. Hace you reported it to the Food Standards Agenvy too?

DrDreReturns · 11/09/2017 17:21

Was it from their in store bakery? We don't buy anything from there. DS reacted to a sesame seed in a loaf that was bought from there.

headhurtstoomuch · 11/09/2017 17:22

If you report to Allergy Uk they might be able to get an alert sent out warning others. My DS has a severe nut allergy and I'm signed up to receive updates.

That's awful. Could you tell that it had walnuts by looking at it, or did DD only realise by eating it?

I complained in Morrisons two weeks ago about incorrect labelling in the instore bakery - walnut bread incorrectly labelled as something different. I found the store manager and told them how incredibly dangerous it was. I am concerned at the poor labelling.

INeedNewShoes · 11/09/2017 17:57

Morrison's don't seem to take the issue at all seriously. Last time I enquired re allergens at the bakery they couldn't even find their folder to check. Pretty shocking in 2016 for a major UK retailer...

Thanks - have reported to good standards now

The nuts were baked into the loaf - if you cut near a nut it would have been visible but otherwise not.

Love Good Standards Smile

Smile serves me right for typing tired
Food standards (although I'm now voting for a name change)

This drives drives me nuts. >. Years ago I worked in Lush and in 03/04 we were hauled over the coals by trading standards because the cut blocks of fancy soap didn't have an ingredients label on every piece. It was on a sign next to the blocks but that wasn't good enough for trading standards. As a a result we added an sticky ingredients label to every fresh item. But of a faff but reasonable request.

So why don't supermarket bakeries have to label up every item? I'm not sure if they even have the ingredients on a shelf label Confused.

Zeldaangir · 14/09/2017 12:22

Ingedrients were labelled but surprise surprise walnuts were not listed.

That is just horrendous. Actually the same happened with a seeded loaf I bought at my village shop. I wonder if it's the same supplier of the unbaked dough somehow.

BumWad · 15/09/2017 10:52

Genuinely shocked at this!
