good case for epipens for dd1 starting secondary, and asthma inhaler cover....

dd1 is starting secondary and I want to get her a smallish case for carrying her epipens in her bag, something that doesn't scream 'medicine' or 'children' too much! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also dd2 saw someone with an inhaler on a lanyard in a kind of neoprene slip cover - I have had a google and can't really find anything online in the uk - does anyone know of something out there?

Thanks

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick, but shouldn't the epipen be easily found by someone else looking in her bag? Something that says 'urgent lifesaving medicine in here' sounds ideal to me.

You are right Molly, I think I have been a bit clouded by dd1's anxiety over carrying round epipens (she has never had to use them) It does need to be obvious - I suppose I just wanted something a bit more portable.

My dd uses a see through pencil case. Not in the box. She also carries antihistamine.

Molly is right, it. Needs to be able to be found straight away. My dd has it on her plan where her, epipen is. My nephew has to keep his in his blazer pocket as that is his school policy.

Poor kid, I do understand her point of view - if she's never had to use the epipen, she might think that carrying it around is a bit of a faff... but it could be a life saver and must be easily located - hope you come to an arrangement she's happy with.

Hi try the site anaphylaxis.co.uk they sell cases which are good for kids, nice pink shooting star which holds 2 . Sorry can't do the link.
I suffer from anaphylaxis and wear a medic alert bracelet which you can get in various child friendly versions.
The main thing is that people know, where her pens are,as I go into shock very quickly and would be unable to administer an prison myself.
Hope you both find something suitable.

A clear pencil case is a good idea, Hope, thankyou.
Unfortunately she had a reaction at a time when she had ust been referred to CAMHs for general anxiety, and worrying about food and medical stuff became all tangled up.
I glad I started this thread, it has kicked e up the arse a bit - I think I will contact the school nurse to have a chat.

We have a bag from yellow cross - it's insulated and just goes in a normal bag
I don't know if a teen would find yellow too medicineike but there are other colours.

We have yellow as my very young child could say 'yellow bag' and any adult could find it easily.

Definitely talk to school nurse as the school needs a care plan for your daughter in case she does have a reaction . All staff should know where her injection pens are and how to administer them.

hazeyjane · 31/08/2017 08:45

The school know - they said she needs epipens in her bag and that there are epipens in the office. The school nurse was involved at primary, when she was first issued epipens.

Look at www.alwaysreadthelabel.info for Epipen pouches.
The inhaler pouch you describe is called a 'Puffa Pouch', there loads on Ebay. My daughter used to have one for school.
