ds1 is nearly 5 and has mild eczema..i've tried oilatum and eucerin in the bath, but don't c much improvement..leaves skin very dry and ds is still itchy..a friend reccomended a bath lotion from india called cetresol something..it was a pink lotion and i have to say it left ds skin smooth..i was pretty impressed..now i can't get hold of it..has any1 heard of this lotion? i'm not sure whether the spelling is right

i've also been very careful when washing his face, using only water each morning. I've never used anything to wash only moisturise with 50/50 after. Any reccomendations?

Aveeno is excellent, if the excema is bad you can get it on prescription from your gp

I use E45 oil or cream bath, quite expensive but it is good. Not sure how it compares to oilatum, probably similar. Is baby oil no good?

even if the ezcema isnt bad u should still be able to get it on perscription. explain u are trying to find something suitable fir his skin and cant afford to keep changing them yourself. once u find one on perscription that works then ask for it to be put on repeat, that way u wont need to make an appt for a new bottle of whatever it is u get.

btw, some people swear by balneum(sp?). didnt work for my kids but others have had good results with it.

my ds1 had molluscum and mild eczema recently - there was a recent thread that lots of mums advised bathing in salt water after lots of children found their eczema disappeared after bathing in the sea. i used 500g - 1kg bag of unrefined sea salt together with porridge oats rolled up in a sock under the hot water tap (another mumsnet tip) over aboutt 4 weeks really worked. also sk cream really helped (contains:chamomile, beeswax, almond oil, borax)

There are some products you can safely use for babies and children with eczema, but they need to be chemical-free. One ingredient regularly used in bath products (and lots of other personal care stuff) is Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, which is known to be a skin irritant! Most people aren't sensitive to it so it isn't such a problem. It's hard to find safe, natural products - I get mine through mail order.

I always thought that the most important thing was to moisturize immediately with something like diprobase to trap moisture to the skin, and that the best thing to use in the bath was aqueous cream or nothing.

Try using Kalmaderm, they do a range of products specifically for eczema incuding a bath emolient. I used it when my son had eczema a couple of years ago and it seemed to soothe it. The website is www.kalmaderm.co.uk

My doctor binned the Oilatum and did a script for Alpa Keri Bath Oil, it is wonderful and leaves skin silky smooth. Interestingly, we can't use aqueous cream I find it makes the exzema flare up and my hands itch like mad.

mum2twins. it culd be the aquous cream u are using contains lanolin, which some people react to. a few places sell lanolin free aquous cream which is better.
