Pregnant and father to be is coeliac

I'm 6 months pregnant with a partner who is coeliac. It very much runs in his family so we are conscious that our future dd might be susceptible. I dont eat wheat as it gives me migraines and our house is entirely gluten free. I have a couple of questions that my midwife and gp have been unable to help with!

  1. Is there any reason I should be eating gluten during pregnancy? I'm not coeliac myself so don't have to avoid cross contamination when out but I don't get exposed to much at all.
  1. Should I continue to avoid gluten when breastfeeding or should I be eating it so that my baby can be tested at some point?
  1. At what age should my baby be tested? I'm aware she will need to eat gluten to be tested which will be tricky as my partner will not have it in the house at all (understandably).

Any advice much appreciated.

Have you tried Coeliac UK?

The baby should just eat normally when it's time for weaning. Three of us out of a family of 7 have coeliac disease so I cook everything gluten free but we do have normal bread for the non coeliacs and biscuits because these tend to be quite expensive. It wouldn't be necessary for your child to be on a gluten free diet if they aren't coeliac. It is possible to have a blood test to see if you have the gene for coeliac disease. If your child didn't have it they would never develop it. If they did have the gene they are still more likely not to develop it in the future.
I think your partner will have to accept gluten in the house if his child is non coeliac as it's unfair to expect the child to follow his diet.
I'm really sensitive and we have to be very careful to avoid any cross contamination but it is possible.

I hadn't thought of Coeliac UK, I will give that a go, thanks.

I thought we would most likely need to wean with gluten, it's just so easy at the moment not having to worry about cross contamination when we're at home.
