Dust mite allergy?

archiesmummy · 24/03/2007 12:05

I have hayfever and get itchy eyes and nose, but the last 2 years it has got worse and my GP suggested it might be an allergy to something else.

Shortly after, we bought a new mattress and the itchyness was more or less gone instantly, so I think (am I right?) it might be dust mites I'm allergic to.
This was about a year ago and the itchyness is now returning and I need some advise please. If it is dustmites, then how do I protect myself?

Thanx

You can buy matresses and bedding which repel dustmites also dusting down with a damp cloth and wooden flooring is better, blinds instead of curtains, leather sofa instead of fabric etc. Also a good hoover is a good investment, I have a carpet cleaner wihich I usee every month too.

Have you been tested? I may have a dustmite allergy kit laying around here somewhere, I did throw alot away (I bought about 30 of them cheap) will have a look for you if you like?

Yes plz have a look for me. I had no idea there was such a thing as a dustmite test kit.

So let me get this right, hoovering the bed is not enough, I need to also wipe the mattress with a damp cloth?

I will look out for a carpet cleaner.

Thanx for the tips

He he I bet he lept off the sofa, obviously you can go as far as you like but we have asthma too so have to keep dust to a minimum.

I have found one allergy kit in my cupboard but its for Grass Pollen (I cant believe I threw the others out, its always the way)!

You can get all sorts from the company's web page if you type in IMUTEST in the search engine it will come up (don't know how to link sorry) They're about £6 or so, you can buy all sorts of home tests, I've actually done the cat, dust and hayfever allergies on me and my family and it has been 100% accurate.

h.x
