Do I have an allergy.....

About 20 years ago I developed an allergy/allergic reaction to raw 'stoned' fruit - I noticed it at first eating cherries, they were my favourite fruit and a treat I used to share with my Dad, however I noticed a tingling around my lips, itchy throat & inner ear and a sort of strange sensation in the back of my throat - a bit like when you blow up lots of balloons. Fast forward to now and I avoid all raw stoned fruit as I was having the same reaction with nectarines/peaches etc.

Today I ate about 5-6 raw almonds and had the same reaction minus the tingling of the lips, same itchy throat and inner ear. My question is, is this a new allergy? I've eaten almonds on/off for about 5 years but not recently. I've never had this reaction before.

They were from Aldi if that makes any difference.

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to get myself tested to see what I'm allergic too - has anyone had these tests? Were they worth the money?

Thanks for reading!

According to this site about oral allergy syndrome almonds fall into the category of birch pollen allergy together with the likes of cherries, plums and peaches so this could be why you are reacting.

Triggers
Although not everyone with a pollen allergy experiences oral allergy syndrome when eating the following foods, they are commonly associated with these allergens:

Birch pollen: apple, almond, carrot, celery, cherry, hazelnut, kiwi, peach, pear, plum
Grass pollen: celery, melons, oranges, peaches, tomato
Ragweed pollen: banana, cucumber, melons, sunflower seeds, zucchini

Thankyou - I suffer with hayfever and we are an 'allergy' family but I thought i was too old.
Thinking about it, I've had odd sensations when eating honeydew melon as well! I shall keep this in mind for the future. Thanks again!

Just wish I had the same reaction to cakes and chocolate!
