I know there was a thread last year and have read that again, just wondered if anyone had any more contacts/ideas/etc. It is my ds' birthday on Easter Saturday and he is having a party. Thought I might do an Easter Egg hunt for the kids (and their parents!) but wanted to incorporate an allergy friendly one for ds. Any ideas??????

I think that we used the whizzers footballs last year for ds for the egg hunt. I was also looking for proper eggs for an chocolate eggs this year for the egg hunt, but can't find any small ones.

I'm watching this thread with great interest!

hi, this may not be what your looking for exactly but i saw a dairy free bart simpson easter egg in sainsburys last week, they had a girls one too but as i have a ds2 whos allergic to dairy i didnt really pay attention to the girls one. it was in their free from section and it was quite reasonably priced too.
makes a change...

Considering DS is allergic to nuts, eggs, dairy, soya, etc. I have given hope in finding a "safe" egg, so... I have got some plastic ones that can be filled with toys, or food he loves. (and I have just realised they didn't make it to the house!!! so need to find some more!)

I also found some marshmallow bunnies and chickens that are free from the allergens although filled with other rubish (www.marshmallowpeeps.com), but hey ho, once a year won't damage him.

HTH

I wonder if there could be a recipe for making our own? Bit of a long shot but guess that by just melting down some of the chocolate that is dairy free and remodelling could be okay. Orrrrr maybe not! Will check Sainsburys on Friday, I do have some of those Whizzers footballs (from one of the numerous failed potty training stints) so could do something with them.

I guess I just throught by now that they would be easier to get.......just wishful thinking I guess.

Oh Chandra - poor you. Didn't you recently find out he was allergic to wheat as well? I feel for you I really do. How did you get on with the bread recipe/maker?

Shame on me , I have been so busy with other things that....I totally forgot about getting it! (Probably because DS is passsing thorugh the I-lurve-corn-crackers phase at the moment which are acting as a good replacer) Although I have found a company that sell them via Internet so may get one soon (especially because I have not been able to find more of those crackers for a couple of weeks.

BernieBear · 22/03/2007 20:54

Mmmmm, corn crackers - it's funny how you yourself end up with a bit of fancy for those things! Love them!

I hate to say this but my ds is going to Grandma's for the day tomorrow and I am more worried about her giving him an epi-pen for no reason whatsoever than anything else. I know that in the great scheme of things this is a good thing (that she is safety first etc.) but just envisage a Friday night in hospital! She's just a little to "trigger happy" if you see what I mean.

SORRY just unloading, let's get back to chocolate!

On the other hand, I have sent a letter to my SIL saying we will not go to her wedding as, between other things, she does not want us to bring DS's safe food, no matter how much we have insisted that there were nuts in the menu and we couldn't trust a hurried chef to get something safe for DS when it has taken us months to learn all the guises of DS's allergens.

We were tired of insisting that cross contamination can really cause a problem but she just won't listen, actually both SIL and MIL are convinced that nothing will happen if they give DS some forbidden food, they say we are over reacting

got the last bart simpson egg in sainsbury's. Can't believe this is the only children's egg available for dairy allergic kids. All the others I've seen are too bitter for children. Why is this so difficult? there must be hundreds of us in the same situation.....!

BizzyDint · 25/03/2007 19:18

asda do a 'free from' egg, no dairy, no nuts, no gluten, noticed it in their magazine today. also m&s do a good range of free from easter products.

PeachyClair · 25/03/2007 19:21

Fortunately DS1 loves bitter chocolate.

Stumped for ds3 though.

jennifersofia · 25/03/2007 19:33

Well, not sure if they do eggs, but booja-booja company make vegan truffles (and they are delicious!). Try the chocolatetradingCo.co.uk

BernieBear · 26/03/2007 14:37

Thanks for this. My mum beat me to the Bart Simpson egg - so will try M & S as our Asda appear not to be stocking anything suitable right now.

Thanks for the messages. My ds is at pre-school today where they are making cornflake chocolate easter egg nests. He can't take part sadly ...makes me so for him. Have promised I will make some with his "special chocolate" later and with rice krispies.

Thanks again
