Coeliac test kit?

Has anyone tried one of these? They are about £20 and give you an answer in 10 mins. My ds2 went on a wheat free diet about 2 years ago ... we're not that strict about it though and he's been asking about eating "normal" food again.
We originally went to GPs as he was tired, awful poos, bloated stomach, no bottom and sticks for arms & legs, not sleeping well - took him ages to get to sleep. GP suggested an intolerance to wheat or dairy. We tried no wheat and the results were amazing - energy levels picked up, sleeping better and poos better. However he still has no bottom (trousers are a nightmare to fit), bloated stomach by the evening and really thin arms & legs.I still feel there's something not right - even though it is better than it was. Perhaps he just has a peculiar shaped body! Fed up of people looking sorry for him with his pale face, ginger hair and so many freckles and then his tiny little body. I get loads of "helpful" advice about giving him meat (we are vegetarians).
He follows a mainly wheat free, but not gluten free diet. I was wondering if we need to go one step further with the gluten, so was thinking of putting him back on wheat for a few weeks and then doing this test?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

It could easily be coeliac disease, given the amazing reaction to stopping wheat. If so, a tiny amount of gluten is enough to prevent the villi from recovering, so the problems would continue. However for a successful blood test, he would need a full wheat diet for up to 6 weeks. It might be better to do this under the guidance of your GP.

I have heard that the kits are reliable but I have no personal experience (I was diagnosed before they became available). I am thinking of getting my mother to take one though....

My GP is lovely, but sometimes a little too laid back! I'd rather do the test and then go back - he tends to fob you off.... in a nice way. Ds2 has had a few days with a tiny bit of wheat - he says he's fine - but I've already noticed more trips to the loo. We have the Easter hols coming up, so I thought it a good time to go back to wheat. Poor mite is so keen to have some normal bread rather than that weird stuff.

Hi schillke, yes sounds like a gluten intollerance too, I think they usually go hand in hand, my dd2 was having the same sympsoms from wheat and gluten so I eliminated it from her diet and she's well away.

This test you bought, could you tell me where you bought it from, I'd like to get one for my dd2 if I can?

Hi Hillary - I haven't actually bought the test yet. It's made by Biocard. If you google coeliac test kit you'll find it pretty quickly. The kit was about £20. Easier than a proper blood test as you need a pinprick of blood ... ds2 is not keen on that idea. Hopefully a suitable treat as a reward will allow me to stab his finger Don't quite know what I'll think if it's negative?!
