Coeliacs symptoms in babies

What symptoms did your child suffer with leading to a diagnosis?

My baby is one and I've taken him to the doctor because he continues to have explosives nappies. (I'm talking half a pack of wet wipes and a hose down with the shower at least once a day bad).

They want to test him for coeliacs however I've had to book blood tests at the hospital, appointment isn't until mid June so it's a long wait before I find out anything. They don't want me to change his diet until I know.
He can suffer with wind and has mild-moderate eczema but no other symptoms apart from the bad nappies.
Does it sound like coeliacs and if yes what harm would it do if I eliminate gluten and wheat before a diagnosis?
He's breastfed and I've tried two weeks without dairy which didn't make any difference so not milk allergy.
Any advice appreciated!

If you took gluten out of his diet, they won't be able to diagnose coeliac disease as you need to be consistently eating gluten for 6 weeks before the test for the antibodies to be there

2 weeks of dairy is not long enough to see an improvement, esp for those with intolerance, 8 weeks would be better. So dont rule out milk as an issue yet.
Keep plugging Gp to get referral.

Do not take gluten out until he's had the test.
My DS was diagnosed at 20 months, he always had symptoms, we just didn't realise what they were.
His poos were soft, but not explosive, they were however a pale sandy colour.
His poos and farts were very smelly.
He had a bloated tummy.
He was very pale.
He had a gurgle tummy, if you put your hand on it it felt like it was full of popping candy.
He also had mild eczema.
Push your GP/ doctor to get him an earlier blood test.

I suspect my DS triggered his coeliac disease after a bout of norovirus (or similar) at around 9 months but that's with the benefit of hindsight. He never had a formed stool, caught everything going, permanently snotty nose etc. Following years I assumed toddler diarrhoea but we got to 4 years old and couldn't believe that was still the explanation. By then he was painfully thin, very pale and had dark circles under his eyes. We did a 3 week dairy free trial and made no difference so started on the coeliac journey.

Looking back he was a pale older baby and cried a lot. He had reflux badly until around 1 year old too but the crying carried on beyond that.
All you can do is get the blood tests done, whilst continuing to give him gluten and make sure they measure his total IgA as well. My DS is IgA deficient which makes the main test inconclusive. I also believe the main test isn't accurate in little ones as they don't make a lot of IgA anyway.
What I would say is that IME GPs don't know much about CD and don't consider it unless they are presented with the stereotypical patient and CD shows up in many many ways. So push for a gastro referral and don't get fobbed off. If it isn't CD it might be something else and you need to find out what.
