Says it all really. To add to the peanut, walnut and almond we knew about we now have hazelnut, soya, pine nut, lupin flour, sweet pepper - and dust mite. When I finally get the letter maybe there will be others the consultant forgot - his letter has apparently gone astray in the post. He rang to offer me a dietician and some sympathy. Also think he was feeling guilty because he hadn't wanted to test for lupin flour or pine nut since he didn't understand the problem.

Turned down the dietician, didn't see them being much use.

what's lupin flour btw??

lupin flour is used abroad and is beginning to be used in this country. Companies do not yet have to label food for it although that will change soon. Read about the risk to peanut allergy sufferers here news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4419709.stm or here www.eatwell.gov.uk/healthissues/foodintolerance/foodintolerancetypes/lupinallergy/

Anyone who has an anaphylactic peanut allergic child should get them checked next time they need an allergy test. If you have any problem quote this (from the anaphylaxis campaign technical adviser) "If the GP sends a plain blood sample to his regional immunology lab with the request 'f335 Lupine Seed' the laboratory are supposed to forward it to one of the national reference labs (Sheffield or Cardiff) for testing. If I were making the request I would add a clinical note such as 'Suspicion of lupin flour anaphylaxis' to ensure that the request is not regarded as trivial and declined."

tatt, sorry to hear things are just becoming more difficult. Agree with you about the Dietician - I took ds2 regularly to the Dietician for four years and it was such a waste of time. The only upside was that ds1 was in love with her (the Dietician) and loved coming along to the appointments!!!

well at the moment lupin flour could be in any flour based product so that does make meals feel more of a russian roulette than before. But nothing has really changed except the way we feel about it. That makes us more cautious so is probably for the best. And now I have more ammunition for either getting pine nuts out of school or at least getting them to check the toilets for soap more often!
