Why have I developed new allergies?

I can no longer eat certain fruit...
Strawberries, cherries, apples, pears, red grapes, plums, peaches....why?

My eyes swell and go puffy or my throats swells and I get lots of constant saliva that's disgustingly thick so it's definitely a reaction and not an intolerance.

Sorry can't be of any help on that front however I've worked in the hair industry for over 20 years and can tell you regular colour clients get sudden sensitivities to colour or products from time to time.
Sometimes it's hormonal if they are at an age where things are changing or are peri menopausal etc.
My sister had a reaction to latex once out of nowhere and it started a string of reactions to foods, materials, products etc etc.
Once the immune system has a funny five minutes it has a knock on effect.

how old are you? my friend has developed new allergies since she's hit the menopause

I've recently developed an allergy too; not sure what it is yet, but seems to be in crisps :-( & salad dressings. I'm also anaemic suddenly, having been veggie for 24 years without a problem.

Do you have hay fever? My dd has this, it is called Oral Allergy Syndrome. It happens more with those who have hay fever as the proteins in fruit is similar to tree pollen.

Dd is now 9 but she had only started to react when she was 5, and can now no longer eat raw apples, stone fruit(e.g. peaches, cherries), strawberries, carrots and avocado. However cooking and freezing changes the structure of the protein, so she is able to eat apple pie, have frozen fruit made into smoothies etc.

You can develop new allergies at any point. Yours does sound like oral allergy syndrome.

Hi, this happened to me in my early 20's, it began with melon, cherries then pretty much all raw fruit and veg. I have asthma, eczema and a few other allergies already. I was sent to the allergy clinic, I have oral allergy syndrome, so basically my body thinks I'm allergic to all this stuff as fruit and veg have the same proteins in them as hay fever and my body was having a cross reaction thinking hay fever was entering my system when I ate fruit etc so I might not necessarily be allergic to all fruit and veg but my body is reacting like it is. I now have to take anti histamine every day for the rest of my life. I'm in my early 30s now and I actually feel it's easing off a bit even though the doctor said once you develop an allergy it never goes away?! My reaction was an itchy throat and becoming wheezy, and if I was chopping veg it would itch my hands. I was so confused by it at the time and even my gp didn't know what was wrong with me. It would be a good idea to research what families different fruit and veg are in as if you are definitely allergic to one thing you may have reactions to other things in the same family. There's lots of information on allergy.uk and also a referral to allergy clinic.

It might be due to a change in your gut bacteria. It is worth considering doing a low allergen exclusion diet while attempting to rebalance your gut bacteria with probiotics, natural and supplements as well as lots of long chain fatty acids. Allergens often go hand it hand with gut problems and temporary gluten and dairy intolerance. You might be able to reduce your sensitivity. Vitamin C is also an effective antihistamine.

Have you had food poisoning/an upset tummy lately? That can cause changes.

cantthinkofabloodyname · 10/03/2017 15:02

I developed an anaphylaxis allergy to melon last year. I'm now getting reactions to other foods too. It's bloody miserable, as I'm so scared of eating fruit & veg now.
