Can I use milk alternatives in baby's food?

My son is 5 1/2 months and on recommendation of the paed we have started a tiny bit of weaning.

He still drinks 30oz of formula a day on top of the small amount of baby porridge and veg purée I've been offering so I don't have any concerns on this front however he really seems to hate his formula in food. He is on neocate for cmpi and to be honest it does make the good taste vile.

Do you think it's ok to put oat, almond or soya milk in his porridge?

We haven't done any dietary challenges yet but I have him normal aptamil on his porridge a few days ago and he wolfed it down. It didn't seem to upset him at all but I don't want to push it or start introducing dairy without the dietician involved.

Any wisdom much appreciated!

Yes as long as you're not using it to replace formula/bm then it's fine. My cmpa baby has oat milk in her porridge etc

Ds (now 12 months) has had Oatly oat milk since we discovered he was allergic to dairy on starting weaning. As boobsaclock says, as long as you're not replacing bm/formula with it it's fine. It's actually pretty tasty and you can use it exactly like normal cows milk when cooking.

My youngest grandson has cmpa and reacted to both soya and almond milk.
Oat milk is the way to go. He is fine with this.

I used to use oatmilk too :)

Koko also good.

As long as it's not as a drink at that age it's fine

Get the blue Oatly if you go for that, as it has added calcium. Alpro soy yoghurt is also good, as is koko (made with coconut milk). Alpro soy desserts are also a massive hit with my ds, as is their custard! Sadly most of the non-dairy cheeses I've tried so far are pretty vile and ds has not been impressed. Violife is probably the best so far but still a bit sad!
