fed up with hayfever

dd1 has bad hayfever. she is on on daily dose 5ml loratadine syrup, but by the 4 hrs later she is suffering badly with sore eyes. i cant up her dose as far as i'm aware (am on hold with the docs surgery atm). i feel useless, this loratradine was meant to be better than multiple doses of piriton throughout the day, and it doesnt make her drowsey. but i can bear to see her so upset.

Misdee - ds2 has loratadine syrup (10ml but he's 12) he also has nasal spray and eyedrops too. The eye drops have to be used daily over the hayfever period as the effect builds up. They are sodium chromoglycate (sp?) on prescription and have improved his eyes (especially now I'm using them properly)!

the doc wrote out a perscription from what i said over the fone. its for eyedrops. hopefully they will help her a bit.

Hope so too misdee - if they're the same as ds2's they have an anti-inflammatory effect and that's why they have to be used regularly.

I suffer from hayfever on and off. When not pregnant I used Luffa complex from Bioforce which was fab - not sure if children can take this and Vaseline up my nose. This really helped and it's natural.

gloworm · 18/06/2004 07:06

Luffa is fine for children too. just use one drop per year of age, for example a 2 yr old would use 2 drops.
add it to some water/juice/milk/squash and give it 3 times a day.

Also use echinacea from christmas onwards...its means the immune system will be stronger before hayfever starts next year. same dose as above.

another vote for luffa tincture. i also bought a garden/plant spray put lots of water in,adjust to fine mist and spray on everything to dampen pollen down. its such a miserable illness

Gloworm, that's interesting advice. Shall try it.

I have seen lots of enthusiastic praise for a new-ish product called nasaleze which is 100% organic. Not sure about availability but they have a website www.nasaleze.co.uk.( or .com, can't remember which!) Hope that helps
