Allergy to toothpaste or something else at bedtime?

DD suffers from eczema and when doc saw her 6 months ago she said "She looks like a child who suffers from allergies" - puffy eyes, stuffy nose. She also has and itchy nose which she rubs upwards, she is apparently a classic allergy sign.

Anyway, she had loads of allergy test for all sorts of stuff (foods, dust, feathers, animals etc) which all showed up negative. So, we are no further forward on the stuffy nose.

I have noticed that she is most stuffed up at night and first thing in the morning but I'm at a loss for what it could be. She also also has a very itchy nose just after she's brushed her teeth ... she often sneeezes when she brushes her teeth .. and then sniffs and cannot clear her nose.

Is it possible to be allergic to toothpaste ... we use kid's colgate and adult colgate?

What else could it be... things I am about to try...
replacing the duvet and pillows which are feather (even though she is not allergic to them.) - worth it or not?
Changing the washing powder and giving up fabric softener?
There are lots of soft toys in her room ... much loved and she would be devestated to get rid of them. And she's not allergic to dust, so guess, there is no point.

What else could I or should I try to eliminate the stuffy nose, itchy nose and perhaps the eczema?

TIA

Rather than making big lifestyle changes (eg throwing out soft toys etc) could you try to go away for a weekend and see if that improves things? For example you could go camping in freshly washed sleeping bags, no carpet in tent, no soft toys, and see if your DD's nose was any better after a day or two.

I know it sounds like a faff to organise but it might be easier than endlessly changing all the variables without ever knowing if it was related.

Do you use any air freshener type things in the bathroom? She could be reacting to those whilst bathing/washing/brushing teeth in there before bed?

Thanks MissG
Don't think a camping trip is going to be possible in near future, but her eczema is def better when we are back in UK (Live o/seas). Can't remember what her nose was like ... will definitely take note next time we travel.

BettyS - good thought on the airfreshner, but no we don't use any.

Anyone else?

your daughter sounds just like my son, who does have food allergies but also has rhinitis which caused him to get chronic sinusitis.

He has the puffy eyes etc, He has just started sneezing everytime he walks into the down stairs loo. I have just put a new toilet cleaner/airfreshener block on the toilet and we wonder if it is that.

wha sort of tests did you have? Usually it's skin prick and they aren't conclusive. What was the reaction to the positve and negative controls like as that can help say how good the tests were.

It sounds like dust mite problems although problems with cows milk may be involved too. If she's old enough for goats milk try substituting that for cows milk. It shouldn't make much difference according to most experts but it's amazing how often it does.

Its possible to have problems with sodium lauryl sulphate which is in a lot of toothpaste but it doesn't usually cause stuffy noses.
