Anyone recommend organic shampoos?

adelicatequestion · 27/01/2007 23:06

I am looking for childrens shampoos and soaps that do not contain all the laurel sulphates and parabens but don;t know where to look.

Will also be buying products for DH and me.

Thanks

Organic baby products are good.

sideways · 27/01/2007 23:15

And this page gives you a few names:

organic baby stuff

nooka · 27/01/2007 23:21

I don't know about organic, but we use Halo and Horns, which doesn't have any of the foaming agents. Seems to have helped with dd's exema patch on her back (she has long hair) and it smells nice too.

ButternutSquash · 27/01/2007 23:58

Try Anita Grant , her products are mainly for afro-type hair but all natural products, she does a shampoo bar that is lovely. Also first class customer service!

Burts Bees are really good, though not easy to find. They do a lovely shampoo for grown ups with none of the SLSs and a solid shampoo bar for babies.

Furball · 28/01/2007 07:37

Nooka - There was a thread a few weeks back where it was revealed that Halo n Horns does contain harsh nasties.

Furball · 28/01/2007 07:39

Have you got a health shop near you? - they always have loads of brands and can usually advise you which onr would be most suitable - they may even let you have samples.

nooka · 28/01/2007 10:47

Thats interesting Furball, because it does seem to have helped for dd, and supermarkets at least have a very poor selection of shampoo for children - seemed to be L'Oriel or nothing pretty much where I live, and that definately seemed to irritate.

gingerninja · 28/01/2007 17:11

www.theremustbeabetterway.co.uk is excellent for all stuff natural and no synthetic chemicals

Swizzler · 28/01/2007 17:15

We use Earth Friendly Baby shampoo and bodywash - smells nice and works for my hair as well

NAB3 · 28/01/2007 17:16

Try the Naked range in Boots. It is fab!! Has no nasties in it at all and they do a full range and have a website.

paddingtonbear1 · 28/01/2007 17:19

I read somewhere that Green People stuff is meant to be good? Never tried it tho. We have used Halo n Horns, but the shampoo and detangler never worked as a detangler on dd's long hair - I have to use a separate conditioner as well!

Spidermama · 28/01/2007 17:22

Has anyone mentioned Green People> I like their stuff. Are you trying to avoid SLS? Because I find that's hard. Neways have lots of good stuff and will also send you an alarming but informative leaflet about all the supposed toxins in your bathroom and a strategy for de-toxing your bathroom and kitchen cupboards (using their products, naturally. )

bottersnike · 28/01/2007 17:23

We use the Green People stuff and it is indeed fantastic!
We've got the aloe vera shampoo and conditioner ( and the shower bath ) and I'm thrilled with them.
Previously I've used their intensive shampoo and conditioner, and would recommend that too.
Would happily buy all their stuff if I could afford to!

Lullabyloo · 28/01/2007 17:30

Yup
Huge thumbs up for Green People too

kiwinat · 29/01/2007 10:24

Please try www.Neways.co.uk

No nasty chemicals, no useless fillers and no ingredient tested on animals. I have used for about 15years and never had to change my shampoo (commonly you do from shampoo burnout). I also use face moisturiser (non greasy), shower gel instead of soap, bubble bath, and there is a special baby range, plus multitude of vitamins and other products even for pets and car. It is sold through direct marketing, so you'd need to find a distributor. I am in the North-East and am a distributor, but only joined up to order products for myself as I've been travelling around the world quite a bit. However would consider ordering for others if you are interested.

upsidedownem · 05/10/2008 01:07

Mamababybliss do a range of chemical free, paraben free baby products. We use the nappy cream and the body wash/shampoo as LO had sensitive skin. The massage oil they sell also worked a treat on her cradle cap.

You can get them from the website www.mamababybliss.com, but I think they have some stockists too.

ps. all smell nice too! (Some of the all natural products smell pretty dredful!) x

supergirl2000 · 05/10/2008 01:27

Another vote for Greenpeople. They do an organic no-scent range which has no nasties. It is a bit expensive but the shampoo and conditioner leave my hair really soft and I don't get the cloggy throat feeling that I get from using fragranced products, which is nice!

glutenfreebabe · 05/10/2008 15:38

A thumbs up for Neways here too, I found even in the 'health' shop a lot of their products contained SLS.

EBenes · 05/10/2008 15:43

I like the Little Me range at Boots because they're not crazily expensive and the rose and neroli smell is divine.

klinsmann · 08/01/2009 22:49

Green People organic baby products are good indeed. There are also many other brands of more natural hair care products than the ones you find in the high street. Try a few out and you will get the one that's right for you.

Mylo · 10/01/2009 22:38

There's a really nice site if you're looking for natural products. www.mama-earth.co.uk I use their organic skincare range for my 2 girls and it's lovely. Not a dry patch in sight!

Healthymum · 03/02/2009 15:58

IMHO best childrens shampoos are from Urtekram. The range includes no parfume & children. I found a store which stocks organic shampoos they also have ecosoapia which is 100% organic soap

looseleaf · 03/02/2009 16:13

I love the Green People too.
BTW I'm with the op that parabens really are worth avoiding IMO, as they've been found in concentration in breast tumours for example apparently so seem to be absorbed
