What exactly do the numbers mean?

I finally got Jamie's test result numbers, lol! This blood test was only done a year ago (25th jan 05)!

I asked for a full copy of Jamie's medical records (easily 150+ page..yikes!) and included are his immunology results. His numbers are as follows:

Milk: 1.3 IU/ml (Grade 2)
Peanut, hazelnut, almond, brazil nut & coconut mixture: 4.2 IU/ml (grade 3)
Wheat: 0.5 IU/ml (grade 1)
Egg: 7.2 IU/ml (grade 3)

I really have no idea what this all means, I always thought that the numbers didn't really matter, if it was positive, it was positive. How do the grades work. It sounds like Grade 3 isn't too bad, so it makes me hopeful that he will outgrow these allergies. I do have to wonder about the wheat though. It causes us the most problems and yet it is barely a positive. We have some suspicions now that he may be coeliac. I plan on asking for a screen to be run when we go for a paed appt on the 22nd

I'm pretty sure grade 5 is the worst but to be honest they can't be that reliable as DS egg was grade 3 and he has had 3 anaphylatic reactions to accidental exposure.

Yikes Chlochlo! Thanks so much for that. It is scarey to think that the grades don't really mean too much. I suppose I can ask the paed while I am there.

See allergy results - it seems to be very confusing!
