high IgE levels mean there is a reaction/allergy they can give a level through a blood test for a specific allergen but when my dd1 had it it was too high to be clear what the allergen was.

Someone will be along soon that can explain better than I can!

means he is allergic to something but probably not food. Could be dust, mould, pets - loads of things. If they haven't done skin prick tests I'd expect them to do tests for pollen, dust mite and a few other common ones.

It could be food too, actually it could be anything, but basically, the only thing that high IgE levels are saying is that the child can be considered allergic but further tests are needed to find out to what. Basically a yes or no answer.

AS far as I'm aware the reference limits are as follows:
0-1 yr old : up to 70 UI/ml
1-4: up to 450
5-10: 500
11-15: 220
adults: 165

Don't understand how or why it is lower for babies and adults, but DS has more than 6 times the limit for his age, but I know children who have far more serious allergies than he has so the number may not necesarily be representative of the severity of the reaction.

Are those references the lowest of the high or the correct levels Chandra?

Chandra · 05/01/2007 23:21

Above the numbers means "allergic", if I understood correctly .

Thats what I thought you meant , thanks
