did the Dr not explain the results to you?

hayleyhew · 18/12/2006 10:38

just said grade didnt really matter - given action plan and had to fight to get epipen because of his age. Just been told lower the grade more chance of outgrowing allergy.

How many grades are there? If there are 100 then 4 is great if there are 5 then not so great.
How old is you dc?

DS had the RAST tests in Spain so I'm afraid the units are the same but I don't know how to translate them to English.

For all things DS was tested for the reference limit to be considered normal was 0.35 KU/L anything about that is showing an allergy.

19.6 may sound very high, but I thought you would like to know that for some things DS had >100 KU/L which basically means he went out of scale.

However, the score got doesn't necesarily reflect in the reaction type. IE. DS had 72.7 KU/L for soya and 2.13 for milk, and his reaction to milk is definitively more severe and immediate than to soya.

Sorry I only saw this now. You probably already have the answer. My son's peanut allergy is graded as a 6 and I have been told that 6 is the highest. You could be right about the lower the better chance of growing out of it. We have been told that at a 6 he will always have it.

Hi My 7 year old son has a peanut allergy and like, Hilsy's son, we was told he was graded at grade 6 which was the highest.
We was told that he would probably always have it but could not be definate as to whether he would grow out of it.

Has any one on here, ever experienced their child going in to Anaphylactic shock after coming in to contact with peanuts or peanut dust? My son was priscribed 2 Epipen juniors when discovered his allergy to peanuts about 3 years ago and thankfully they saved his life in march 2005.

Spoke to a consultant today and he said its a logarithymic scale. There are 6 grades with 6 being the most allergic. So 4 is 10 times worse than 3 and 6 is 100 times worse than 4.

As has already been said it doesn't equate directly to severity of reaction but the higher the level the greater the probability of a reaction when exposed to the food. Mine has just tested positive for sweet peppers, which they can eat with no problem.

I also believe my child's epipens saved their life, it's amazing to see how quickly they work.
