or possibly an intolerance. Ds2 is already allergic to dairy, eggs, nuts & wheat.

About 2 months ago I noticed that ds's (2.5) nappies were becoming unformed mush again and then in the last 2 weeks, they developed the nasty "wheated" smell, became mucousy and he was getting terrible nappy rash again. I decided to try and cut down on the amount of soya that he was getting in the form of numerous tru-free biscuits (for calorific content!). He hasn't had a single biscuit in 48 hours and his nappies have improved, have lost the horrific smell and his rash is clearing up.

We don't have an appoiontment for another 4 weeks to go back to the hospital....and that was all they had when I enquired about bringing it forward. I will give it another few days and then re-introduce the tru-free stuff to see what happens.

I sincerely hope that he isn't allergic to soya as it is in sooooo much stuff. I feel like I have been thrown back in at the deep end again

my nephew has coeliacs and cant have soya either

best of luck

Heartmum2Jamie · 16/12/2006 23:19

Thanks! I have been asked a few times if ds is coeliac and the truth is...I don't know! They tested him when he was 7 months, before he has been weaned onto any solid food and he was still exclusively breastfed. I may ask at our next appt.

they cant test for it iof its never been present [hmmm]

Heartmum2Jamie · 16/12/2006 23:26

I know! Flippin dr's, I have no idea why they wasted their time and put us through it if ds wasn't eating solids . I hear that there is a blood test that shows if there are any markers in the blood. I don't know if testing would work as we obviously don't give ds food with wheat in, therefore, he doesn't really get gluten either.

you can have one with out the other

would you give him corn flakes say ?

Heartmum2Jamie · 16/12/2006 23:33

If he could have proper milk, probably! As it is, we don't, but I see what you're saying. Hmmmm, I think I have stumbled into a whole new minefield

soya is a common allergen, it doesn't sound good. Barley and rye also contain gluten so you could give him gluten containing foods withour wheat. I think you need quite a bit of gluten for the blood test to work though. Even then its not 100% reliable but biopsys are very unpleasant. Have you tried him on dairy free probiotics?

Chandra · 20/12/2006 12:31

Have just seen this, and I'm afraid even oats contain glutten (although some people can tolerate them).

I really hope is not soya, although I'm not quite sure if it would be better for him to be allergic to glutten. But if keeping soya out of the diet is helping I would continue that way, and hope it is just a temporary intolerance.

Tatt, if you have found some dairy free probiotics please let me know (Pleaaaaaseeee!!! I have been looking for them for ages)

Hi there,
It does sound like soemthing in the biscuits doesn't it?

For calorific content you can get a kind of rice bread which is soya, nut egg and dairy free (and gluten too obviously) which DS had for a while until he outgrew the soya and gluten problems. We got it on prescription and I can't remember its name but I'm sure someone else may be along son to help.- anyway I was going to suggest giving him lots of toast made with thisto up the calories, or pasta made with rice or corn.
