Asthma in children

After 9 weeks of doctors and hospital it seems that my DD - 10 months - has a chest infection and Asthma. I feel awful I've been on the web - probably a mistake - and the triggers they are talking about make me feel like I'm to blame. We recently had a problem with mould and had to get an extractor fitted as the house was too insulated, we have a cat, I don't know if we have dust mites but we probably do and I'm really not sure what to do or where to start. Does any Mum out there have experience and any practical advice.

my son was diagnosed with asthma this summer at 2 (about 2 wks after his birthday) he'd been having problems for about 5 mths. My DH had asthma as a child so am not too surprised. I don't believe that the triggers cause the asthma, but they do agrevate it. We had wood floors in the children's rooms already. As well as wood & stone floors downstairs. We've recently put a air purifier in his room (AirFree from GroBag). We don't have a pet, but he visits next door's rabbit quite a lot. But after an incident he isn't allowed to hold the rabbit while molting -- as it aggrevated it.

Would suggest that you vaccum DD's mattress and any other soft furnishings in her room for dustmites. Wash her blankets, sheets etc frequently. I put any cuddly toys in the freezer for a few hours (kills the dust mites). Make sure her room is well dusted. I find the bedroom is the really important room, so tackle that first.
