Sudden intolerance to egg?

I went off eating eggs when I was pregnant, DS is now 5 months and since he was born I've got terrible stomach cramps every time I've eaten egg. I've cut them out of my diet to a point, but haven't thought too much about the products which include egg as an ingredient and I haven't had any issues. However, tonight I ate a cake which contains a lot of egg and I've been in agony ever since.

The pain I get is across the top of my stomach and feels like a dull and heavy ache. I take gaviscon and Rennies which eventually help (I think, it could be that the pain goes away on it's own) but it lasts for a few hours. I haven't been sick with it but it exhausts me and I go freezing cold and shivery too. Does this sound like an allergy, an intolerance or something else? I'm in my thirties, is it possible to just develop an allergy/intollerance to something that has been a large part of my diet for most of my life?

Is it something I should see the dr about or is it just a case of avoiding eggs and getting on with it? I guess I don't want to be making a mountain out of a molehill but I also don't want to make things worse. And right now it's utter agony.

I should also add that the pain starts about an hour after eating egg, not straight away.

This happened my sister word for word. She became allergic to eggs after having her first baby. She blames the flu injection she got while pregnant (it contains egg & can cause allergies). She hasn't been able to eat egg since but hers is so bad she can't eat mayo/cakes etc same reaction but can also be sick & come out in a rash.

Looks like that could be a possibility.

Thank you for the reply, goodness so it does sound like something - I had the flu jab too and I didn't even give it a second thought. Your poor sister sounds like she really suffers, thankfully I haven't got to that stage with it and I'm hoping I won't either.

Think I'll get to the GP for some advice, I am actually worried that it develops further to the point that it's more than just discomfort I get.
