Ds (10mo) was diagnosed with cmpa at 2 weeks old after he has mucous poos, which eventually turned to bloody poos, reflux, was feeding every 45 mins and had a rash all over his body.

He was going to start the milk ladder at 12 mo, but he did have a tiny bit of milk a few weeks ago and there were no reactions so the dietitian said to start the milk ladder giving 1/4 a malted milk biscuit then 48 hours after 1/2 then 48 hours later a whole one.

I have just given him the 1/4 and am terrified Blush

Anyone got any success stories of successfully completing the milk ladder at 10mo think k need hand holding

zombie,
my DC2 has multiple, severe allergies.
DC3 had mucous poos and rash from about 2 weeks old; i went dairy, soy, egg free. i reintroduced all 3 recently (she's exclusively breastfed), and she's been almost completely free of reaction (tho she is still reacting badly to me eating corn).

There are definitely success stories about . If you didn't have a huge reaction after the first bit, chances are even if he does react later, it won't be anything severe.... GOOD LUCK!

Thank you Smilehow old are your dc? He seems ok so far but he has got a bit of a nappy rash its kind of at the side of his willy Blush I have no idea if it's related though as his nappy was soaked this morning when he got up.

His poos are fine though and his skin, he hasn't got the face/chest rash he had before so hopefully we can keep going!

It's hard as his dietitian appointment isn't until next week. I have so many questions for her!

I'm also just starting the milk ladder! My DS is 18 months and is Gluten, egg and dairy free so have had to make my own malted milk biscuits. he had half yesterday and a whole one today. Seems fine so far but its very early days. I know how scary it can be so just here to say hi really!

Is it the first time you have tried Ilovetosleep?

I'm a bit confused, ds seemed fine with 1/4 a biscuit but did have a bit of redness round his bits earlier. I saw his consultant today for a check up who told me to stop as he is not 12 mo. The dietitian told me to start the other week.... There seems like there's conflicting advice from different people. Don't know who's advice to take.

Surely as he has started it would have been better to continue if he's ok.

Zombie, you will get a lot of conflicting advice depending on when people were trained. Please note that i don't know what they say these days for the little ones, in your circumastance, as generally i've been focussed on my 3 year old (with multiple allergies). Generally, though, If they can handle a little (and it's not causing problems), it is now recommended that kids are given a little of whatever is the issue, as if they stay completely away from it, it can worsen from a 'mild' reaction to a stronger one (including potentially anaphylaxis).

If i were in your position (and i'm not a doctor, so this is just personal), I would continue giving him 1/4 at regular intervals (say twice a week), and every few months see if he can take a little more without reacting - drop back to whatever is not causing a problem and continue on like that.

it's not published yet, but keep an eye out for the EAT study (hopefully published soon in NEJM).. might give you a feel for where advice is heading!

PS. DC3 is 4 months old

zombiemeow · 02/10/2015 15:55

Yes I would think a little bit is good if they can tolerate it. I may do what you suggested and just give him little bits of malted milk Smile will see what his dietitian's response is too!

I haven't tried the milk ladder before, no. We have had a failed wheate challenge and have been backwards and forwards with egg, but this is our first milk ladder. He has had a homemade biscuit with evaporated milk in (the equivalent of a malted milk) 3 days in a row now. He's totally fine, nappies fine, skin fine. Can't wait to get to the next rung now, will give it a few more days though.

Good luck Ilovetosleep Grinmust be really difficult with multiple allergies.
