weaning and egg allergy

Hi

What's the current advice about weaning and egg allergies please?

6 month old baby has had pasta and pancakes containing egg with no problems. This morning he had eggy bread and a bit of scrambled egg. His face and neck went red and blotchy but has calmed down after having a bit of piriton.

Should I now avoid egg in case the next reaction is worse, or try again in order to build tolerance?

Hi!

I'm not sure about current advice on weaning, but I would definitely avoid it until you have spoken to doctor.

My ds has lots of allergies since he was a baby, and for eggs, his reaction depends on the amount , egg York, egg white, cooked, etc.

If you see the reaction on baby's body, he might have reaction inside his mouth and throat as well, which might narrow his airway and cause breathing difficulty.( can end up with Anaphylaxis.)

My ds carries EPI pen.
Better safe than sorry!

In the case of egg allergy, repeated exposure doesn't build tolerance - the opposite is true, the more exposures the worse reactions are likely to get. DS1 started off being able to tolerate well cooked egg but by toddlerhood couldn't have it at all.

See your doctor and ask for a referral for testing.

Thank you.

A couple of friends with allergic babies have confirmed the same and given me info about the "egg ladder" to test skin with various egg products.

GP beckons then!

Meg, sorry to bring up an old thread, but just what you said about repeated exposure to egg...did you do the egg ladder with your DS? We were doing it as recommended by the dietician and got as far as French toast which caused a reaction.
